Wedding Dresses to Suit your Style of Venue

Written by Caitlin Hoare
They are two of the most important elements to a wedding day; the venue and the dress so it’s no wonder brides-to-be want them (and everything else) to work together in perfect harmony on the big day.

We would always recommend prioritising your venue search first and then once that one is in the bag you can have some fun searching for a dream dress to suit. It’s a pleasure to have Blackburn Bridal gracing the pages of our Blog again today, with a cleverly curated selection of wedding dresses to suit our venue styles. Keep scrolling for some helpful dress shopping tips and to see what they’ve picked…

Spoiler alert: there are some absolute gems!

Notes from Blackburn Bridal

During the initial consultation when we first meet our brides we always ask where they are getting married, as well as how many guests are attending and at what time of year the wedding is taking place. This all helps to build up a picture of the day and the look and vision our brides want to achieve.

Whilst we always say a venue shouldn’t dictate which dress a bride goes for, it can be helpful for us to narrow down a selection or aesthetic. We have had lots of fun looking through these wonderful Coco Wedding Venues and imagining what our brides would wear to walk down the aisle.

The Rustic One

First up Stone Barn in Gloucestershire is a gorgeous versatile venue. Laid back and cool this rustic barn also incorporates grander aspects such as the vaulted stone ceremony room and the reception space adorned with twinkly fairy lights. Barn venues are often the most versatile of backdrops – allowing a couple to really inject their personality through the flowers and decorations they choose. We would pair this venue with our ‘Petal’ fitted gown from our Blackburn Couture Secret Garden 2023 collection. The dress incorporates 3D floral embellishment which gives a nod to the gorgeous grounds and gardens of the stone barn. This dress with its square neckline, low scoop back and fitted train is a relaxed glamorous look – it can be dressed up with accessories and a veil to really make a statement – in much the same way as the barn can be.

the Classic bride

Findon Place epitomises classic elegance, with its sprawling grounds and Quintessentially British Country Manor House – you can imagine being lady of the manor for the day! A venue of this scale demands a dress with wow factor – we have chosen this beautiful lace and tulle dress from Polish designer Anna Kara. The full sleeves add a nod to tradition that is perfectly in keeping with a ceremony hosted in the dark panelled drawing room. Whilst the deep plunging neckline and sheer lace add a modern touch. The tulle skirt provides adds a soft romantic look to the dress – creating an elegant look to suit this breathtaking venue.

The Coastal bride

The Penn Estate is a totally unique venue combining a Gothic looking castle with a cliff top location. Unlike any venue we have come across before this venue is breathtaking which ever angle you choose to look. You can say your vows overlooking the sea so a ‘coastal cool’ dress is definitely required for this brief. We have paired the Noah dress from Australian designer Anna Campbell’s latest collection for this one of a kind venue. Soft, romantic and lightweight – embellished with laser cut flowers and petals, secured with glass beading and sequins this dress fuses classic romance and modern elegance seamlessly.

The Boho bride

From Tipi’s and Yurts to outdoor ceremonies sat upon Hay Bales – Dorset Woodland Weddings is a beautiful rustic location to say your ‘I do’s. This outdoor venue definitely requires a laid back, informal and relaxed dress – anything too formal would look out of place and overdressed. We have chosen to pair our Primrose gown from Polish bridal designer Anna Kara – to create a whimsical look most at home in the outdoors. This gown features a distinctive floral embroidery which dominates the top and hemline of the skirt whilst the tulle layer gives it a lightness. The bottom of the skirt is adorned with applique to mimic a cornflower meadow. The two asymmetrical sashes at the back can be tied or left loose to float freely – an informal take on a traditional veil. This dress is the ultimate in effortless beauty – perfect for a bohemian bride.

The City bride

We love a city wedding and the Pan Pacific London in the heart of Bishopsgate – quite literally ‘the city’ is the perfect backdrop for a modern luxurious wedding. A modern venue gives you free reign to inject your personality through your dress choice and for this reason we have paired Isabella from designer Fran Rios. Isabella is the perfect combination between a fitted corset panelled bodice with the coolness and trendy look you get with a jumpsuit. It seems totally fitting to match our London designer with a venue in the heart of the city. This look is ultra modern and uber cool.

The Vintage bride

Hampton Manor – a country manor house re-imagined with contemporary style calls for a dress that combines modern style with vintage glamour. This lifestyle hotel oozes grandeur whilst being infused with fresh design-led touches. Each and every detail has been carefully considered. We have paired this decadent venue with the Sadie dress from Katy Britton. A brand new design for 2022 the silk crepe marocain dress features a plunge neckline, double skirt split, flounce sleeves, open back and cut work detail on the skirt and sleeve. Every element of this dress has been carefully considered and is a true work of art. From all angles this dress is a showstopper and is perfectly suited for a bride looking for something a little different to stand out from the crowd.

The Destination bride

Destination weddings call for more consideration when it comes to choosing ‘the dress’. We will often discuss lightweight fabric choices and transportation with our brides to ensure all bases are covered. Anna Campbell’s designs are so well suited to the destination bride, Anna’s designs look most at home by a seascape. Whether you choose to say your vows in the XV century vaulted ceiling inside the entry Hall of Mas Torroella or amongst the Olive trees of the ‘secret forest’ this two piece from Anna Campbell is the perfect way to make a maximum statement whilst being totally comfortable (and just as important cool). The lightweight fabric of the apply named ‘summer’ chiffon skirt moves effortlessly in the breeze, paired with the Autumn topper incorporating delicate ivory hand embellishment. This modern fun shape is a playful look that makes a beautiful feminine alternative to a traditional one-piece dress.

The Luxe Bride

The final venue selection, Hedsor House – acclaimed as one of the UK’s most beautiful Georgian Stately Homes and Tatler and Vogue’s ‘Dream Venue’ requires a truly stand out dress with drama fitting of the surroundings. We have chosen to pair our Petal dress again from the Secret Garden Collection from Blackburn Couture but this time with the full Princess skirt to create a sense of grandeur and presence. The petals sit on the full bodied skirt made of the finest ‘shimmering’ tulle, brides will quite literally glisten in the sun and candlelight. For this grand venue loved by celebrities and the London elite we thought one look wasn’t quite enough and what could be more perfect than changing up your look for something even more glamorous and opulent in the evening! Complementing the day look we have chosen the Amber dress from Blackburn Couture which provides continuity incorporating the same silhouette but adds a whole new level of glamour with an all over heavily embellished beading in a nude colourway – a totally unexpected look to wow the guests ensuring the bride remains centre stage all night.
