A ‘Home Tour’ of Boconnoc, Cornwall

Written by Emma Hla

I have the best job in the world. Fact. Mostly because I get to visit utterly beautiful places as part of my ‘research’ and boy are these field trips fun when the husband and pup are in tow! Well, Mark is technically IT support so 100% part of the Coco Wedding Venues team. As for Gatsby… Ummm… Mascot!?

Early last year we were invited to stay at luxury retreat Boconnoc in Cornwall. So bags packed full of winter warmers we bundled into the Mini leaving behind the Sussex seaside and headed towards another coastline 240 miles away.

The stunning Boconnoc House is set amongst sweeping private parkland and I dare you not to get a little caught up in the romance of it all. The grand house takes your breath away as it comes into view after the two miles, yes two miles, of private roads. Quite the entrance I must say.

The house has been restored over the last 12 years and has breath-taking views across the park to the woods and lake in the valley.

One of the original Coco venues, Boconnoc can play host to small intimate affairs for two right through to larger than-life parties for up to 240 guests! With beautiful barns, stable yards, yurts tucked away in the woodlands, a secret sunken bathhouse and their very own church – you can create absolutely any wedding here. It’s the perfect elegant blank canvas.

But I wasn’t just visiting Boconnoc with my ‘wedding venue’ hat on. Nope, Boconnoc are also a beautiful Cornish retreat for those in need of a bit of R&R. Whether you’re seeking a romantic weekend getaway, escaping the city or need a family-friendly spot then consider this Cornish corner.

The House makes for the perfect party pad with all the luxurious trimmings of a country pile. With 9 bedrooms and bathrooms, four large reception rooms, a kitchen, a games room and a library with a projector for movie nights it pretty much ticks all the boxes.

Within the lush grounds there are also 3 holiday cottages, and it’s the Dairy Cottage that was to be our home for the next two nights. Think cute, bright with a dash of the quirky and you’re there. Situated next to the main house, on the hill, it has glorious views across the estate. I think I found my inner peace when sipping on a cup of steaming coffee watching the sun come up over the hills, Gatsby running around free as a bird. Yes, I thought, this is happiness.

If you’re not one for snuggling up, drinking wine and playing board games *ahem* – then there’s lots do in the area too! So get out and explore the local towns of Lostwithiel and Fowey, or stay close to Boconnoc and indulge in beautiful walks through the gardens, enjoy sundowners and picnics by the lake, cycle around the private roads and indulge in the fresh local produce from the bustling fishing villages.

Thank you so much to the lovely Clare for being a brilliant hostess during our stay and for making us feel like part of the Boconnoc family, and of course to the seriously talented Sarah Hannam for popping over to take these gorgeous photos!

So when you’re thinking of somewhere for a weekend away (or maybe even a mini-moon adventure!), take a little browse at some of the locations on Coco Wedding Venues, you might just find something really rather special.

Lots of love…
