For couples who’ve started to look beyond surface-level eco-claims (and are increasingly tuned in to what genuine sustainability looks like), this is precisely the kind of news you need to be paying attention to. B Corp certification, awarded by non-profit B Lab, recognises businesses that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. It’s important to distinguish that it is not a self-awarded badge; it’s verified by an independent third party. So when a wedding venue holds it, you can absolutely trust that the values are baked into the business rather than simply printed on a brochure.
Chapel House Estate is also the first wedding and events venue in Thanet to achieve B Corp status (quite the local milestone!) and a clear reflection of the estate’s longstanding commitment to people, place, and planet.
Set across 35 acres of private Kent countryside on the edge of Thanet, Chapel House Estate is a family-run, multi-award-winning wedding and events venue with a rather lovely backstory. The land was once known as ‘Rope Yarn Farm’ (everything held together with string, the team will tell you) before being reimagined and redesigned into the considered, contemporary venue it is today.
The estate combines the rustic character of restored barns and meadows with refined modern design, including six adaptable event spaces, exclusive-use accommodation for up to 38 guests, and a slick yet warm team behind the scenes who you would be super lucky to have looking after your big day.
The most surprising thing to learn might be that Chapel House Estate’s B Corp certification isn’t in fact a recent pivot. The team have been working sustainably from day one, beginning with an ecologist brought in to advise on construction and landscaping right at the start of the estate’s transformation.
Since then, they’ve planted over 500 metres of hedging, added ornamental trees to support local wildlife, and designed estate-wide lighting to minimise light pollution and protect the area’s nocturnal inhabitants. Wedding confetti is biodegradable or natural petals only. Washrooms are stocked with refillable glass bottles in recyclable packaging. The estate even has its own beehives producing organic honey – a small, tangible loop in a much bigger sustainability picture.

Of course, this is a Coco journal piece, so you might be wondering: what does it actually feel like to get married here?
Well, as the estate offers six wedding spaces, it’s designed to suit just about any kind of celebration. The Wild Apple Orchard is the headline outdoor ceremony space – a meadow allowed to flourish naturally, where vows can be exchanged beneath blue skies and bright sunshine for up to 150 seated guests. For indoor ceremonies, the Old Malt Granary is a beautifully restored barn featuring high ceilings, exposed beams, original brickwork, and large windows that let the natural light pour in. For something smaller and more intimate, Chapel House itself seats up to 15 for elopements, micro-weddings, blessings, and renewals.
For receptions, Thorne Barn takes larger celebrations of up to 150 daytime and 200 evening guests, complete with a 1920s-inspired cocktail bar and outdoor terrace. The Glass Courtyard and adjoining Lounge Bar suit more intimate gatherings of up to 60 by day or 100 by night, and transform after dark into a glass-covered, candlelit space where the party continues under the stars.
When it’s time to retire, on-site accommodation sleeps up to 38 across Chapel House (which includes a honeymoon suite with a freestanding copper bath and uninterrupted views), nine contemporary pine Hideaway Lodges, and two cottages bordering the estate.
The food and drink side of Chapel House Estate clearly reflects its wider values. The Head Chef and team design menus around estate-grown produce supplemented by trusted local Kent suppliers. In fact, the region has long been known as the Garden of England, and at Chapel House, it’s not just a tagline but a sourcing principle. Couples can choose between grazing tables, feasts, three-course banquets, or late-night wood-fired snacks, with bespoke cocktails and a thoughtfully curated wine list to match.
This all sits within Chapel House Estate’s wider B Corp commitments: local, low-waste, and seasonal, without making too much of a fuss about it. And the morning after, Number Nine (the estate’s on-site restaurant) handles a leisurely breakfast for guests, because, as we all know, the celebration doesn’t end overnight.
If you’d like to experience Chapel House Estate in full, the team are hosting a Wedding Open Day on Sunday 7th June 2026, from 12pm to 4pm. Private tours can be booked in advance with the wedding team for a personalised experience, and walk-ins are warmly welcomed to wander the estate at their leisure.
Based on a weekday wedding in March.
