Wild Ones at Wilderness

Written by Emma Hla
The destination wedding vibe is hot right now, but not everyone wants to (or indeed can) jet off to faraway climes for their wedding. So why not bring the destination to the good ol’ UK?

Sun-bleached, scorched-earth and rust tones are where it’s at and this stunning editorial is the perfect inspiration for those wanting something a little different for their English countryside wedding.

Created by Nicola Dixon Photography for her Wild Ones Photography Workshop alongside Claire from Butler & White, this is what happens when all the supplier stars align – pure magic. The setting is Wilderness Weddings in Kent which is an incredible outdoor woodland wedding venue in the ‘Garden of England’.

Emma Ryan Photography has captured all the details – boho brides feast your eyes on all of this goodness!

Notes from the Stylist

Claire says…

What a privilege it was to be asked to style at the latest Wild Ones Photography Workshop, I didn’t hesitate to jump at this!

The super talented Nicola Dixon of Wild Ones created an inspirational board of dreams for me to jump right off! The love for destination weddings and warmer climates shouted out all the way through the mood board, lots of Moroccan vibes and laid back Aussie style to get us excited!

The setting, Wilderness, in the beautiful Kent countryside was a great backdrop for some seriously laid back Aussie Boho styling. Pampas grass, lazy lounging and laid-back entertaining is at the heart of this setting and we wanted to embrace these feels though the overall styling. With Boho decor and fashion being presented heavily in the media we wanted to show how this can work in the UK too!

SASSFLOWER framed the ceremony with the most amazing mixture of palms, roses, Spanish moss and pampas grass. In keeping with these boho vibes, we added gorgeous giant cane lanterns in between the grasses and lined the ceremony aisle with a mixture of vintage rugs.

I created two dreamy tablescapes – one low level for informal grazing and a more traditional style table set-up.

Grape & Fig created the most amazing grazing table on the low level table for the bridal party to enjoy. This worked so well with the vintage rugs, Moroccan pouffes and patterned floor cushions as the seating option. Grazing tables are becoming a popular choice and is certainly a winner in our eyes.

The second intimate setting was dressed with raffia place mats, rust coloured plates, raw linen napkins and amber glass. A simple colour block placecard from Wonderland Invites add a deeper tone to the place-setting.

The coloured glassware creates a wonderful golden glow when the sunlight hits it! Retro amber glassware was used to hold pampas grass, palest pink feathers, roses and anthurium. SASSFLOWER worked some serious magic with the flowers on the table.

I chose a dark wood rustic style table and dark wood folding chairs, to create this tablescape amongst the golden fields from our friends at Co-ordination Hire. The combination of textures and subtle colour shifts as the light dances over the table was quite magical.

The low level table in the amazing naked tipi by Apache Events really embraces the idea of informal grazing and lounging at your wedding. This table is both functional as a grazing table and great for lounging and relaxing in the sunshine with a glass of something delicious. Moroccan influences dominate this area with a fun Aussie twist making it feel very modern. Rust coloured napkins add colour to the muted palette, wooden plates and wooden candlesticks keep it informal.

I love to use coloured glassware where ever possible and opted for the smoke water glasses for this table. I also love the mix of patterned textiles next to the vintage rugs. It truly is a feast for your eyes!

I added additional seating areas around the grazing table, opting for cane furniture, Moroccan tables and leather floor cushions. I love the Spanish moss SASSFLOWER added to the tipi structure, it really frames the whole setting. I managed to source the most incredible 70’s shell chandelier which hangs from the centre of the tipi and is such a great addition to overall look. I was delighted with how this came together!
