Lizi says…
I grew up in the village and used to walk around Tortworth Lake every first Sunday of the month when it would be open to the public, not only does it have a special place in my heart but viewing it as a wedding venue it was absolutely stunning! There was no question that we were going to have our wedding there! We were able to create our dream country style wedding, and our guests were able to camp on the Friday and Saturday night which made it very special.
My wedding dress was a bargain from Wed2be in Bristol. It was one of only 100 dresses made in that style! It had 4 layers of lace, a bit of glitz at the top and an amazing long train. My shoes were recycled bridesmaid shoes from the year before as they were so comfy and I knew I could last in them all day! The bridesmaids dresses and head bands were from ASOS. The grooms and groomsman tweed suits were handmade and fitted by Jennis & Warmann.
Our theme was country style and rustic. The hidden glade gave us the perfect setting for this, we then chose to have a Tipi from World Inspired Tents who were incredible in helping us create the perfect set up. Nothing really matched and that is what we wanted. We made the bar ourselves out of hay bales and planks of wood, our table-centres were different country objects filled with flowers (eg, a stone pig, a wheelbarrow, a welly boot!), Pete’s mum made multi-coloured bunting to hang throughout the tipi. It was just perfect!
My mum did the flowers, she’s not a professional but you wouldn’t be able to tell! I completely left it up to her to provide us with the country style wild flowers we wanted and she went above and beyond! There were flowers everywhere and they were better than we could have ever imagined.
I did my own cake as I’m a hobby baker; it was four tiers, Victoria sandwich, Chocolate, Orange, and Carrot cake. It was semi-naked with foliage and thistles on.
Our caterers were Cherry Picked Catering. The food was absolutely out of this world. Our guests are still talking about how good it was and we could not recommend them highly enough.
Our photographer Lloyd was absolutely brilliant. We are over the moon with the photos he took of our day and I don’t even know how he got some of the photos! I wasn’t aware of him all day but he managed to capture some really incredible moments! We wanted a lot of natural photos to capture the atmosphere throughout the day and that is just what we got.
Best part of the day
How do you even answer that! One of my favorite moments was arriving to all of our guests by the boat house, having reception drinks in the back of my uncles old school landrover and getting out to music from our bank The Wandering Three. The band then played and lead us around the lake to the tipi for our canapés, everyone followed in a train, it was totally unplanned but felt like we were in a scene from Mamma Mia!
