Jamie & Ariko’s Boconnoc Wedding

Written by Emma Hla
A vintage bus, a dreamy outdoor ceremony, boys on bikes, gin and Crispy Kremes aplenty and a bride so vibrantly beautiful you’ll smile from ear to ear. Welcome to the wedding of Jamie & Ariko at the gorgeous Boconnoc in Cornwall…
Notes from the Venue

Exclusive hire at Boconnoc gives couples the freedom to create a wedding that they have always dreamed of. With several large reception rooms, accommodation for guests onsite and beautiful outside spaces, it is the perfect venue to make a weekend of it. Boconnoc is a wonderfully adaptable venue that lends itself well to contrast and quirky styling. Jamie and Ariko created a day that was completely unique and individual to them. Hiring the venue for the whole weekend gave them the flexibility to add all those personal touches that they could share with their family and friends.

Ariko opted for a beautiful traditional hand designed kimono which was a complete surprise for Jamie on the day. They both agreed this was one of their favourite moments. The dress was created and designed by Mamiko Sato featuring vibrant shades that complimented Ariko’s equally traditional and elegant hair styling using fresh flowers. For the evening reception, Ariko unveiled her second dress, a patterned lace gown which was bought from BHLDN at Anthopologie.

The groom and groomsmen looked all kinds of cool in their black suits, shades, (beards!) and white converse. Rocking up to your wedding day on motorbikes has got to be one of the best ways to make an entrance!

Ariko and Jamie’s wedding was a globe-trotting adventure that celebrated and reflected them as a couple. Featuring aspects of Japan, the UK and the US, they successfully managed to incorporate elements from each through their wedding food which was meticulously planned with their caterers The Round Kitchen, and also through their styling of the house and grounds. The bride and groom along with their family and friends put together much of the décor themselves including the flowers and the ceramic centrepieces which they created for a wonderful personal touch.

Jamie and Ariko worked closely with their wedding planner Jenny Granlund of Jenny Wren Weddings – with her wealth of ideas and attention to detail she brought everything together to help them create their perfect wedding.

The couple chose to put together their own wedding flowers. Ariko’s handmade vases were filled with Japanese ikebana flower arrangements consisting of delicate white, pink and peach peonies, as well as white and blue delphiniums, viburnum opulus, green hypericum and white and pink snaps.

The catering was a key part of the wedding for the bride and groom. They used one of Boconnoc’s recommended suppliers, The Round Kitchen, who they worked alongside to create a bespoke menu for their special day. The wedding breakfast was a celebration of them, taking cultural influences from all over the globe including a surf and turf platter, marinated Cornish mackerel sushi, katsu pork, a trio of Cornish shellfish, Japanese green tea cake, green tea mochi, and mini Cornish cream teas. The theme continued on the culinary adventure, finishing with a tower of delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

The couple chose Matthew Sumi as their wedding photographer. Based in the US, Matthew of Flowertoss Weddings captures each wedding in its own unique way. He lets his clients dictate the flow and feel of everything caught on camera.

Best Part of the Day

The ceremony took place in just one of the spectacular locations at Boconnoc; on the front lawn overlooking the beautiful parkland. The crab apple tree hanging over the ceremony spot was in flower and when the petals fell it created a magical blanket of natural confetti. The tree was adorned with giant white balloons, adding a light and bright feeling amongst the petals and dreamy May air. The special humanist ceremony setting looking out over the park gave guests perfect views of the parkland towards the lake in the valley and the ancient woodland.

Words of wisdom…

Haphazardly searching for suppliers on the internet can be a mind-blowingly difficult and confusing task. Boconnoc has a list of carefully selected expert suppliers that we will happily share with couples. Once we understand the plans of each couple, we are able to point them in the right direction and help them find suppliers that perfectly match their criteria and ideas.
