James & Beth’s Broadfield Court Wedding

Written by Emma Hla
With its far reaching views, beautiful gardens and elegant interiors, Broadfield is one of the most special wedding venues in Herefordshire, so it’s easy to see why James & Beth chose this country house estate for their traditional, rustic wedding day.
Notes from the Bride

Beth says…

As soon as James and I got engaged, we knew exactly where we wanted to get married. I grew up in Herefordshire and knew Broadfield Court as a local vineyard.

Broadfield was the first venue we visited and straight away James and I were blown away with the beauty of the house and gardens. The house itself was undergoing renovations, but we still loved the venue and knew that this would be the perfect setting for our wedding. We had complete faith in Helen and her team and knew the house would be beautiful for our big day!

James and I are both from the countryside so really wanted to have a traditional rustic, country wedding. Broadfield fit this image perfectly. Throughout the whole process of planning our wedding Helen and her team were super helpful. Helen created a full schedule of our day and helped us to think of details that hadn’t even occurred to us! On the day itself Helen was there to make sure everything ran smoothly. Everyone was so friendly and definitely helped James and I to relax on the day!

I was really nervous about getting my wedding dress. I had an idea of what I wanted but so many dresses looked too over-the-top and I’m not a very girly girl. I went to a local bridal shop called Castle Brides that was recommended by a friend. Angela, who owns the shop, was amazing! Angela was so helpful and put me at ease straight away. I told her the sort of dress I was looking for and the kind of wedding I was having. Angela picked out a dress and it was exactly what I had wanted! The dress was by Maggie Sottero. It was an off-the-shoulder, full-length dress covered in lace, long-sleeved, with a medium train and belt around the waist.

I tried on a couple of others but was decided that the first dress I had tried was the one for me. I cancelled any other dress appointments I had made! Angela fitted the dress perfectly and was so attentive throughout the whole process. I felt that the dress had enough detail so I didn’t have a veil. The back was beautifully detailed so I wanted to show that off too. I wore plain white heels but took these off pretty quickly when the dancing started! The only jewellery I wore was some small pearl drop earrings.

The main colours we used throughout our wedding were blue and yellow. Having spoken to my bridesmaids we decided on a light blue for their dresses. I was keen for my bridesmaids to have similar dresses but so that they could add their own style too. I picked a multiway dresses and loved how my bridesmaids could style their dress their own way. I chose Victoria Lou Bridal multiway dresses in powder blue. The colour matched our flowers really well and our groomsmen then had matching ties too.

My makeup was done by a local make-up artist called Beth Price, who is based in Herefordshire. I had a trial with Beth a couple of months before my wedding and really loved the natural look she created. I don’t usually wear a lot of make-up but Beth put me at ease and did an amazing job for me and my bridesmaids. My hair was then styled by Tabitha MacCurrach-Paine who is also based in Herefordshire. Because my dress was so detailed I was keen to wear my hair up to show-off the neckline. Tabitha tried out a couple of styles and we picked one that was neat but also had a natural look too. I loved the overall look and was so pleased with how everything fit into the general feel of our day.

Our florist was Victoria and Barney at The Flower Garden at Stokesay Court. I did a lot of research for florists as we mainly wanted a soft, natural look. Victoria was really helpful and so knowledgeable. We really wanted wildflowers and roses, and Victoria helped us to pick colours that complemented each other. Along with our bouquets we had milk churns with large flower arrangements and a mixture of jam jars with flowers for our tables. Victoria also provided flowers for my bridesmaids hair and our cake.

Our cake was provided by Cathy at The Stables Pantry. We had a three tier cake with chocolate, lemon and fruit cake. We wanted a combination of our favourite flavours with being a little traditional too. Having a country wedding we wanted our cake to have a rustic, natural look too. We trusted Cathy as we didn’t know much about cakes and were so happy we did. The cake was beautiful and tasted incredible!

Our photographer was Paul Willetts from Worcestershire. We decided to choose Paul because we wanted natural-looking photos that weren’t too staged and this was the style Paul seemed to specialize in too. On the day Paul was so friendly and helpful and he took the most amazing photos. We can’t thank him enough for everything he did! Paul took a great mixture of photos to capture the feeling of the day, our guests, the ceremony and our caleidh. Paul blended into the background so wasn’t intrusive in any way, which we really appreciated. I couldn’t recommend Paul enough to anyone looking for a photographer.

Best part of the day

I honestly couldn’t pick one part. The entire day was exactly how my husband and I had pictured it. Overall I think we’re just so happy with the feeling of the whole day. Everyone was so relaxed and happy, and every aspect, from the food, to the photographer to the band was just how we had imagined it.

From one bride to another…

I think the reason our day had worked so well was because we had a really great team behind us helping with everything. We fully trusted everyone at Broadfield, our caterers, Paul, Cathy, our florist and our band Ceilidh Tree. To anyone planning a wedding I would say to make sure you’re fully confident in all of your suppliers so that you can trust them to create your perfect day.
