How to Achieve The Sixties Kitten Look with Jo Adams {The Hair & Make Up Atelier}

by Emma Hla
Feature Image by Jade Osborne Photography.

So did you see our sixties inspired bridal boudoir shoot at Iscoyd Park this week…? Yep, it was a saucepot of a feature!

Perfect for Valentines week non…?

With that in mind, we wanted to share with you how to recreate the look behind our sixties bombshell. So if a flicked eye, nude lip and tousled locks are your thing then you’re going to want to make some notes and a shopping list ahead of tomorrow’s romantic shenanigans.

Jo Adams, the gorgeous gal behind The Hair & Make up Atelier and our make-up artist of choice for the shoot, is here with some of her favourite products as well as some top red-carpet tips!

Notes from Jo Adams {The Hair & Makeup Atelier}

Great eyeliner…

Trace a line using a slanted eyebrow brush first. I love to use a waterproof pencil such as Engraved by MAC. This is your guide and your chance to perfect a feline flick and to rub away any mistakes.

Make up artist tip: I like to draw on my flick with open eyes and extend from the lower lash line so that the placement is organic to the eye shape. Then apply a luxurious liquid liner, my favourite is Guerlains which comes with an easy to control, fine brush. The finish is blackest black and completely smudge proof, perfect for wedding days and nights!

Nude lips…

Tom Ford has the most GORGEOUS nude lips sticks. An absolute favourite in my kit for red carpet, for its butter soft application and choice of neutral tones for all skin tones.

Sexy Eyes…

Armani Maestro Eraser is the BEST under eye concealer on the market. Disappears into skin and dark circles vanish! This non greasy concealer dries tracelessly withough drying out the delicate under eye skin. A MUST for smokey eye fans as this formula does not encourage your smokey eye to smudge and move south, unlike some other brands. One of a kind.

Make up artist tip: This product is lightweight enough it can be used over colour correcting and not look cakey.

Finishing touch…

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal is the perfect finishing touch to any make up look. Buff into shoulders, decolletage cheekbones and any exposed skin for beautiful flawless skin that glows in your photos.

Make up artist tip: Boost tired complexions by adding one pump to your foundation!

Volumous hair…

Use a great bodifier such as Redken guts to add extra oompf! Blow dry after applying to slightly damp hair and leave on velcro rollers while applying your make up to boost body. I love the large barrel ceramic tongs by Babyliss pro to add loose waves. If your hair needs extra persuasion to curl, squeeze hair in your hands immediately after tonging (while hot) and pin up each curl, leaving to cool.

Stylist Tip: After blowdrying, blast with cool air to add shine AND cool the hair thouroughly before tonging. Hair that is still hot from blowdrying with drop far faster when tonged.

I’ll race you to Space NK…?

Happy Valentines my sixties kittens!

Lots of love…
