Helene & Prajith’s Micro Wedding in London

In a year when weddings have been limited, it’s an honour when we are asked to feature a couple’s personal journey during this difficult time.

Rebecca, of Rebecca K. Events & Weddings, created a truly intimate wedding day for Helene & Prajith at 10-11 Carlton House Terrace in London.

Notes from the Planner

Rebecca says…

I have been working with Helene and Prajith since May 2019, planing their June 2020 wedding here in London. At the beginning of February as Covid-19 begin to increase throughout the UK we started having conversations of postponing their wedding to September 2020. In March when the UK government issued a lockdown we postponed the wedding celebration, but the couple decided that with their family both coming from abroad, rescheduling it until June 2021 would actually be the best idea.

Like so many couples, Helene and Prajith were beyond sad of the idea that they would not be able to have their wedding day this summer but they were grateful they were healthy and knew that in 2021 it would be an even more joyous occasion.

On the day in June that was suppose to be their wedding day, they dressed up and had a little ceremony in their garden, just the two of them. In the UK, even after lockdown was lifted, wedding ceremonies were still not able to take place in June but at the beginning of July I received an email from Helene, just after the government lifted the restrictions and was allowing wedding ceremonies only to take place. Together they had decided that yes they wanted to continue with their 2021 wedding celebration but they REALLY wanted to legally get married this summer and could I help.

Their family were both in India and the US and they knew that they would not be in attendance, but with FaceTime and a couple of friends allowed in person, they would love to make it official this summer. Luckily their amazing wedding venue had just reopened for small gatherings and allowed them to say I do, the first wedding since lockdown in the lovely London 10-11 Carlton House Terrace.

I knew the day would be small, and originally they wanted no bells and whistles, but myself and the suppliers were set on making it an extra special day for them in such a weird time we are all living in. We decorated with summer blooms straight from the florists garden as a symbol of a fresh beginning and a new start! It was so lovely!

The room was set up according to social distancing guidelines, guests wore masks, we FaceTimed their parents in and popped up bubbly for them post ceremony. We even had confetti as they exited the venue and I set up a small dessert table for two so that they could toast as newlyweds before heading out to a nearby restaurant for dinner with their friends.

The venue introduced us to Alba who is a documentary photographer from California. She was LOVELY for the occasion! You didn’t even know Alba was there, sneaking around the small wedding party in a beautiful way.

We will still plan their big day for next year, but I know Helene and Prajith agree that the day was memorable and special and even if it was smaller and micro, it was lovely. It taught us that weddings do not have to be large and over the top to be special, not at all! With so much happening right now with rules changing daily, it was lovely to be able to see the two of them celebrate!

Best part of the day

I truly think it was making it happen! We Facetimed Helene’s parents in from Florida and I know they were so excited to be able to legally get married in 2020!

A Planner’s Advice

As a wedding planner my advice is to still celebrate in 2020, early 2021 if you can. If you have to postpone your big wedding day due to Covid restrictions, you can still celebrate and have a lovely intimate memorable ceremony and meal afterwards with your nearest and dearest.

Smaller may mean more money to your décor (as you can see with the gorgeous mantle arrangement!) and table settings or maybe it’s a meal at a restaurant following your ceremony. Either way, do not wait to celebrate your life and your love until there is a vaccine and life resumes to what we knew of it last year.

Getting married in a micro way can be LOVELY all the same! I have teamed up with some London wedding suppliers as a collection and we are so excited to be working with couples to create a stylish and memorable day for 15. DO it! I know 10-11 Carlton House Terrace has a lovely package for small ceremonies and they would love to host you!
