Notes from the Planner

Roberta says…

From the moment you set foot inside The Mount Without, prepare to be whisked away to a realm of enchantment. This extraordinary space, once a sacred church, now serves as a captivating haven where the past’s echoes mingle with the present’s vibrant energy. This magnificent room exudes an indisputable warmth; the architectural details offer a distinctive fusion of old-world charm and contemporary innovation, while the walls whisper stories of bygone eras that permeate every corner. Its historic charm should not be disregarded, though, as this location is anything but stagnant. It has recently undergone a transformation that juxtaposes the old and the new to create a mellow yet edgy blend that is breath-taking and energising.

Our editorial is a chic, romantic affair, exuding sophistication with abundant flowers. When The Rose Shed approached me to plan the shoot, I was immediately inspired by the idea of incorporating flowy textures into the fashion and the decor. This would be the centre of our creative vision, evident from the start. I also became fascinated with the venue’s captivating stained glass windows while searching for inspiration. These elaborate pieces of art, the backdrop behind the altar, became the main feature of our design.

I knew a gown from the Muse By Berta collection would be perfect, and I have been drawn to a boho-vintage aesthetic with a modern flair. There’s something about the combination of these styles that is truly creative in a unique way. Luckily, The Wedding Club lent me this gorgeous Jordan dress, an avant-garde and sensual gown, which is a true showstopper. With its strapless A-line silhouette, it effortlessly combines elegance and modernity. The pressed glitter fabric, which hints at glitz and sparkle, is one of its most notable features. Its tiered layers, creating a cascading effect, give the whole ensemble movement and depth. But the detachable balloon sleeves set this dress apart, adding a whimsical and romantic touch during the ceremony. We removed them for the evening look and party time.
The Jordan dress is finished with a dazzling diamante bow belt. This exquisite detail cinches the waist and adds a touch of luxury, enhancing your natural curves and creating a flattering silhouette.

The make-up was focused on enhancing Elle’s radiant and glowing skin. The goal was to accentuate her beauty through natural glam makeup while maintaining a sense of effortless elegance. The result was flawless! Our hair stylist complemented the look with relaxed waves for the ceremony, adding a touch of softness and femininity to her overall look, perfectly matching the romantic atmosphere of the ceremony. But as the day turned into night and the festivities continued, it was time for a change. The hairstylist decided to switch things up and create a sleek low-do for the glamorous atmosphere of the evening affair. With her hair pulled back, Elle’s features were brought to the forefront, allowing her natural beauty to shine even brighter.

The spring floral arrangements and table décor featured subtle hints of dusty blue, ivory, and copper accent tones, a delicate shade of beautiful lilac lavender. From the stationery suite to the iris cake petals’ colour, MonAnnie Cakes expertly crafted. The Rose Shed created a stunning floral ceremony arch that mirrored the arch-shaped window behind the altar. The arch harmonised with the whimsical, soft candlelight from the tablescape and was embraced by meadows and high installations. Our wedding florist, The Rose Shed, strongly went for “the bigger, the better” regarding her floral arch, keeping it romantic with subtle touches of colour for a timeless yet elegant and stylish look. For her arrangements, she used foxtail lilies, coral charm peonies, lavender delphiniums, plenty of lilacs, muted toffee, and blush garden roses with dark copper beech and textured smoke bush foliage.

We then developed more ideas from there, moving more towards a brass/rust tone and also incorporating a muted tone of dusty lavender and blue on the tablescape, focusing on adding textures and elevating the table with some vintage white and blue flatware with a botanic motif, gorgeous crystal glassware, bespoke menus, and calligraphy place cards. Our cake artist, MonAnnie Cakes, was inspired by the flowy Muse by Berta Dress and wanted to create an iconic cake that reminded her of the irises at the Chelsea Flower Show she visited in the previous weeks and perfectly blended with the lavender floral hues of the installations.

This shoot is an excellent example of how an initial concept can be turned into something truly remarkable. When designing a space, paying attention to what catches your eye is essential! It could be anything from the beautiful colours around you to an extraordinary architectural detail. These elements are a great starting point for your design journey. They can help you create a cohesive and visually pleasing space. Adding pops of colour can add a touch of fun and enhance the overall look. You’ll create a space that truly reflects your style.
