Tegan & Niall’s Slindon House Wedding

Written by Caitlin Hoare
Tegan & Niall chose Slindon House for their wedding venue, a beautiful and historic Manor House set within the South Downs National Park.

I love it when a couple chooses not to tick every single wedding box. T & N chose to forgo the lengthy formal meal, the speeches and even the wedding cake but really went for it with gorgeous DIY wedding decor, stunning bridal accessories, and their very own gin bar!

Wedding traditions don’t suit everything and as Tegan says, “we don’t regret making those decisions”. Well folks, you’re only going to do it once so remember to stay true to yourself and create a wedding every bit as unique as you are!

Notes from the Bride

Tegan says…

We chose Slindon House because it has an interesting history and we loved the idea of using the conservatory as a gin bar. Slindon house has amazing views of the countryside and sea in the distance. Best of all there are animals such as donkeys and alpacas.

When looking for a dress I wanted something that felt light and was easy to move in but was still quite bridal. I like that the dress was not completely white, the underskirt is pink and it has an almost ethereal feel. I chose pink bridesmaids dresses because the colour really suited all of my best women. I wanted them to feel great on the day so I let them choose their own style of dresses and shoes but kept the colour and hair the same. The groom’s suit also had pink in it and he had the wedding date embroidered on the inside of his jacket.

We didn’t originally have a theme for our wedding. I knew when we first started planning that I wanted to collect cups and saucers for the guests to use and I wanted to DIY as much as possible. A few weeks before the wedding I decided I wanted macrame on all the chairs instead of sashes, I was making these up until the day before the wedding! I also made table name signs based on our favourite TV couples. My dad made the copper arch which we hung our ’til death’ sign on and it is one of our favourite decorations.

Most of the flowers were dried or faux which we found at our local garden centre but my bouquet was from Rooted and Co.

For the wedding breakfast we had a vegetarian afternoon tea and for the evening we had a barbecue. Susan from Quinn Events who did the catering was great at helping us decide on every element and the food was amazing.

We chose Phoebe Rossi as our photographer because we really liked her laid-back documentary style. Neither of us are fans of being in front of the camera but Phoebe made us feel really comfortable. Our guests have all said about how great the photos are!

BEST PART OF THE DAY

The best part of our day was being able to spend time with all our friends and family in the same place. When planning our main aim was for it to feel like a big party and I think we achieved that.

FROM ONE COUPLE TO ANOTHER…

Don’t feel like you have to follow wedding traditions if you don’t want to. We chose not to have a formal meal, speeches or a wedding cake and we don’t regret making those decisions.
