Something Blue at Curds Hall Barn

by Caitlin Hoare

Countryside glamour with a delightful dose of spring-coloured textiles and statement florals…

You’ve likely seen it when browsing Pinterest: transforming spaces, creating a visual impact, softening edges (or covering up unwanted features!). Yep, you’ve got it…draping! It’s a gorgeous venue styling option that delivers a big punch and is the perfect way to inject colour and personality into a space without blowing the budget.

For today’s spring-inspired editorial at Curds Hall Barn, the team has styled the venue spaces in a way that would both inspire their couples and demonstrate the dynamic versatility of this stunning Norfolk barn, including draping a wall in soft blue from their super fresh colour palette and creating a breathtaking backdrop for a ceremony in the process.

Add delicate lighting, dramatic details, and a blend of dry and fresh florals; there’s a LOT to swoon over here. Perfect for those looking to create a subtly modern but romantically rustic vibe for their big day. Enjoy!

Notes from the Venue

Eleanor says…

We were keen to showcase incredible local businesses’ work and demonstrate that barns, although often associated with boho or rustic weddings, can be versatile venues providing an inspirational backdrop for any style of celebration.

The barn has two areas with different feels, which meant we could emphasise various aspects of the scheme. The high vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass mean abundant light within the Main Barn, making it the perfect space for playing with colour and statement installations. At the same time, experimenting with decorative lighting is particularly effective against the darker walls of the Woodshed and provides incredible impact.

With on-site accommodation and a three-day hire period, couples are encouraged to transform the space to make it their own for the weekend (as demonstrated in this shoot!). Curds Hall Barn has a team of dedicated coordinators who love working with couples to advise the perfect crew of suppliers to help create the most memorable weddings.

Our bridal look was all about adding elevated details in a very wearable way—a classic look at first glance but with bespoke elements. The Selene dress features a gathered A-line skirt, pockets and a thigh-high split, exposing a fitted mini underskirt (and blue shoes!). It oozes glamour with a rebellious streak, allowing the bride to showcase her style. Sleek, modern hair styling allowed for more daring accessories of an oversized blue bow and bold earrings. A dewy base and nude lip supported a statement eye. Blue lids, classic black liner and full lashes gave a contemporary makeup look.

Blue muslin draping, a hanging floral installation, plinths and jute rugs provided a ceremony focus in the Main Barn. Fairy lights with blue draping and a colourful floral design provided a backdrop to the sweetheart table for dining. Colourful tableware and napkins added to the theme, and candles and bud vases added soft lighting and tones to the tables. The bar and mezzanine levels were transformed into cosy seating areas with furniture and props provided by Array Wedding and Event Hire. The decor was designed to illustrate that a select number of bold pieces are often more effective than lots of small details, resulting in more impact on your budget.

Florist and dried flower specialist Sirrah Flowers began creating statement pieces in spring colours. They made spectacular arrangements to frame the ceremony, the wedding cake and the sweetheart table. Combining dried and fresh florals within the details gave the sweeping textile installations a contrasting texture. A focus on pampas grass, blue delphiniums, pink ferns, white blossoms, yellow yarrow and natural grasses and branches, with minimal greenery.

The transferrable messages from this shoot are to be inspired by the season you are marrying in, to concentrate your available budget on smaller, larger statement pieces rather than lots of smaller props for more impact, and to trust experienced suppliers to create something bespoke for you.
