Sarah & Elliott’s Boho Woodland Wedding at Low Hall The Lakes

Written by Emma Hla
For Sarah & Elliott, the lakes held a special place in their hearts, and their search for the perfect wedding venue in the area led them to Low Hall, a charming rural spot that immediately wowed them upon arrival.

Fran and Ben, the warm and like-minded hosts, welcomed them with open arms, along with their furry friend, Basil. Low Hall immediately felt like home to the couple and was exactly what they were looking for in a wedding venue. The rustic charm and idyllic woods provided the perfect backdrop for their vision, and the rolling countryside in the horizon made for stunning photos, as you’ll see.

Low Hall reflected the S&E’s style and made for the perfect mid-summer wedding day.

Notes from the Bride

Sarah says…

Location was always going to be the lakes as it holds such a precious place in my heart; my Dads ashes are scattered there and as a family we visit every year.

We really appreciated the personal touch that Low Hall allowed, as we were able to bring in our own suppliers while also taking advantage of their recommended local suppliers. The guest house was impeccably decorated, making it a dream stay for the whole wedding party.

My wedding dress was from The Wedding Club in Birmingham, designed by Pronovias, with a separate Rue De Seine slip that gave it a boho vibe. I initially went into the shop looking for a specific dress from Rue De Seine, but after trying it on, I felt it didn’t suit me. However, I stumbled upon the perfect dress on the sale rail and paired it with the Rue De Seine slip to achieve the silhouette I wanted. The in-house seamstress did an amazing job of recreating the slip. I wore a headpiece by The Floralistas, shoes by Paradox London, and carried a ‘See by Chloé’ bag. Saskia at Sass + Co did my hair and makeup, while the bridesmaids wore dresses from Topshop and ASOS.

Elliott and his groomsmen had their hair and beards styled by JG Barbers Beeston, as they are the owners of the barbershop. Elliott wore a suit from Moss with a tie handmade by my mum, matching pocket square, and Hudson shoes. The outfit had a fashion-forward feel with bold, autumnal colors that stood out in contrast. The pocket watch was a family heirloom with a yellow gemstone that had only been worn once before at his best man’s wedding.

We went for a colour palette of bold autumnal shades which was reflected in the table placements and decor of the charming barn, all styled by Hello Haigh Designs. I personally designed all the wedding stationery, from the invites to the drinks signs and welcome boards, ensuring that it all aligned with our vision for the day. We didn’t want to go overboard with the decor as we wanted to let the natural charm of Low Hall shine through. To keep our guests entertained, we had outdoor lawn games and a teepee for the kids. My talented mum made lots of bunting which decorated the woods, as well as the napkins, table placement mats, and flower girls’ gifts (adorable crochet teddies). It was wonderful to see everything come together so perfectly!

The florist we chose for our wedding was The Floralistas. We gave them the freedom to choose seasonal flowers based on our vision, and they did a fantastic job delivering:

  • A flower cloud that was placed at the altar in the woods and then moved above the top table inside the charming old barn
  • Aisle pots filled with a mix of dried and cut flowers and foliage, which were later used as table centerpieces for the reception
  • My bridal bouquet and headpiece, as well as groom’s boutonniere
  • Corsages for our mothers and gift bouquets
  • Foliage runners for the trestle tables, cake flowers, and sprigs for the gin bottle table plan.

The cake was from Suzie Q, who is known for her ability to bake delicious cakes without rich ingredients, perfect for those with dietary restrictions. The four-tier cake consisted of lemon, fruit, chocolate & ale, and carrot flavors. The bottom layer was designed to look like a wooden log slice to fit in with the rustic theme.

For the wedding breakfast, we chose Karen Rhodes based on a recommendation from Ben and Fran. We opted for a tapas-style menu consisting of pork belly, king prawn skewers, mini bacon cheeseburgers, chicken massaman curry, goats cheese bon bons, spinach and feta filo tart, with orzo pasta salad, sweet potato salad with figs and balsamic, and chunky chips as sides. The dessert was lemon meringue pie. We chose this style of food to fit in with the relaxed and informal atmosphere we wanted for our wedding. Banquet 1415 took care of the evening food, an authentic Argentinian grill street food vendor from the Midlands. We were already familiar with their delicious food from previous events at Elliott’s barbershop.

Our photographer Bridgette Ibbotson was the perfect fit for our day. From the first contact during Covid, her relaxed yet professional attitude gave us the confidence to let her do her job without any questions asked. Her style of candid, natural shots captured everyone’s genuine expressions and made us feel at ease. We knew children were going to play a large part in the wedding, and Bridgette’s family-oriented approach and experience with kids made us feel reassured. Her second shooter on the day, Abby, was equally brilliant and made everyone feel comfortable. It was a pleasure to have them both be a part of our special day.

Best part of the day

Having just got married, we both had a glass of fizz given to us by Ben and were in the library together just taking in what had happened and it was a really special moment that we both felt so excited to have just experienced together.
