Oh, Sweet Whimsicality at The Lost Music Hall

“Smothered in greenery and bedecked in seasonal flowers, this spring shoot at The Lost Music Hall in Devon embodies nearby Totnes’ well-heeled, bohemian affections…”

Tucked away in the heart of Devon’s lost Italian gardens, The Lost Music Hall offers couples an enchanting escape, blending historical charm with modern romance. Surrounded by lush landscapes and filled with versatile spaces and relaxed interiors, this venue invites you to create a truly personal celebration. The editorial, crafted by Fern Godfrey Weddings, is a pretty, modern vintage, whimsical wonder and includes faves Tara Statton Photography, Baxter and Ted, Virginia’s Vintage Hire, The RoseShed and many more…

The Venue

Smothered in greenery and bedecked in seasonal flowers, this spring shoot at The Lost Music Hall in Devon embodies nearby Totnes’ well-heeled, bohemian affections.

Hidden within the county’s lost Italian gardens and behind its terracotta façade, The Lost Music Hall was once the retreat of a London dandy who came here to escape the eyes of society. Today, it still retains its hedonistic spirit, inviting couples and their loved ones to envelop themselves in the celebration of love.

Ceremony spaces are in no shortage here, and the walled garden shone particularly bright on this day in the South Hams, where a waterfall of florals and billowing greenery sat on plinths, and wildflower arrangements framed the ceremony space. Within the grounds and house, couples can join through a civil ceremony in any number of spaces, the orchards and grand music room paving the way for nuptials throughout all seasons. For traditionalists, chapels abound in this leafy Devon corner. In spring, the seven acres of gardens surrounding The Lost Music Hall are awash with blooms, ancient trees create shade for mid-summer wedding breakfasts, and the River Ambrook entices couples to slip away for an afternoon dip.

The Brief

A no-size-fits-all elopement or intimate wedding venue where couples are encouraged to make it their own, this truly is a place where fairytales are taken out of folklore and made into reality. There are three fantastically large rooms (accommodating up to twelve guests should the wedding party want to use all of the available beds). Hopefully, the laid-back luxe styling of our inspiration shoot showcases that couples can bring their own style and ideas to The Lost Music Hall – outdoor bars, Champagne towers, basement DJs, and dance-offs are all welcome here, and with the property to yourself for (at least) three days, there’ll be no rush to leave this historical estate.

The Fashion

Our gorgeous bride wore the D’eesse gown from Julita London, which felt like the perfect blend of soft glamour for this special venue. The dress is highly embellished with three-dimensional florals and beading, but the tulle sleeves and feathers at the base of the skirt add gentle movement. It’s a truly unique and beautiful gown. For the groom, we looked to Moss, who has really upped their game in recent years. Green felt like the perfect colour for Spring, and it worked beautifully with the prints we used for the linens, and the seasonal floral displays created by Rachel at The RoseShed. We kept the make-up very soft, with soft pinks and dewy, fresh skin. Clare Lloyd’s beautiful accessories showcased how much you can change your bridal look with the simple addition of a headpiece or chandelier earrings.

The Flowers & Styling

The Music Hall room is incredibly atmospheric and manages to feel simultaneously cosy and spacious. We wanted the styling to bring some lightness to the wooden panelled room, so we chose a beautiful green and yellow patterned linen from Maison Margaux for the tables. I always think seasonal florals work best, and Rachel created displays that felt zingy and fresh in the room. The tableware was elegant and classic and was such a welcome pop of colour amidst neutral tones.

Rachel has an amazing eye for colours and enhanced our green and white palette with soft pinks, gentle yellows, and some deeper purples. Rachel used lots of seasonal flowers. We were lucky to have the first of the Spring sunshine, so there were flowers in abundance.
