Natural, Rustic and Exclusively Yours

Blank canvas barns really don’t get much better than this. Let us introduce you to Sedgewell Barn

It’s no secret that you, our couples, LOVE a barn wedding venue and we think that Sedgewell Barn is one of the best. It’s versatile, rustic, and pretty flippin’ cool, if this styled shoot is anything to go by! Couples have exclusive use of this gorgeous, flexible venue AND there is even an adjoining luxury glamping site too. If you’re dreaming of a beautiful barn wedding, this editorial is a great place to start.

Notes from the Venue

As you enter the grounds of Sedgewell Barn you are instantly aware that the venue is a real hidden gem in North Yorkshire. The barn is nestled within our working family farm which boasts 60 acres of rolling farmland overlooking the Yorkshire Dales at one side and the Hambleton Hills to the other.

The concept for the styled shoot was to concentrate on the romance of a wedding, the intimacy of the space and work with the aesthetic of our exposed brick barn. Therefore, the pastel colour palette was perfect for supporting the softness and elegance of a wedding along with subtle touches of greenery.

Our in-house wedding coordinator, Ellen from LND Events, shared this concept with The Trove who are fabulous venue stylists located not far from us. Being a family run venue and having such a loyal presence with fellow business owners and suppliers in the North East region, we thrive on working with local people and sharing our business with them.

The Trove then further developed the theme to specific items that suppliers could also bring along to the styled shoot. Flori and Fern, an insanely talented florist located in the North East, created a deconstructed flower arch from stands, custom made by Bramble Sky, for the ceremony scenes and used flowers such as White Cloud, O’Hara and VIP Chiffon Roses, Lavender Delphiniums and Jasmine alongside greenery such as Eucalyptus and soft Fern to fill them out to the most beautiful display which was all done foam free, to frame Chloe and Isaac.

In keeping with the pastel colours, Where the Ribbon Ends, an award winning cakery, produced three cakes with stunning pearl details and flowers from Flori and Fern. They also hand decorated biscuit favours and mini cakes for the table which looked totally divine! The cakes were placed on beautiful acrylic plinths that were very kindly loaned to us by Blonde Army’s hire collection.

Moving onto the dining scene, Anna made one larger centrepiece with two supporting smaller ones, again, using similar flowers to the arch but with added highlights such a homegrown Sweet Peas and Wild Raspberry. These displays were then reused in the glamping cabin images. Sarah from The Trove brought Ellen’s ideas to life on the dining scene and used a baby blue tablecloth, hired in from 88 Events, which was laid over a trestle table supplied by Abracadabra Marquees and surrounded by six of their pale, cross back, rustic chairs which really complemented the barn.

On the table, Sarah laid napkins onto the white plates with gilded edging and gold cutlery to the sides. This was where Another Loop’s talent came into play. Another Loop are a local supplier who are exceptionally fantastic at wedding stationery. They provided stunning pink stationery with gold foiling which was placed over the napkins. Scattered around the florals were Ester & Erik taper dinner candles in peach, blue and pink, to achieve a classic romantic look using modern pastels with touches of gold and ribbed glass accents to keep it feeling fresh and airy.

Our model bride, Chloe, is naturally stunning and to keep the soft romantic look we wanted a minimal enhancement of this. Becca Hunton Bridal was our dedicated Hair & MUA for the day and we loved the fact she works with Arbonne, a vegan cruelty free brand, so this is what Becca used to create a gorgeous look on Chloe. We then had the privilege of using two brand new Pronovias gowns which had just arrived into Victoria Robson Bridal Boutique four days before the shoot.

For the ceremony scene we chose their long sleeve Pickford dress with a breath-taking over skirt. For any bride considering this, the beauty of the skirt is that it’s detachable so you can really change up your look for later in the day/evening. For the dinner scene we used the second dress, which was the sleeveless Lansbury but came with a detachable cape, so again offers versatility and another option for brides who have initially been considering a dress change.

Our groom model Isaac was dressed in a stunning tailored suit from Dandy Threads who are based in North Yorkshire. The check pattern was shades of blue with a lilac tie and matching pocket square which all tied in with the styling details. This was paired with a white shirt and dark brown boots (model’s own).

Despite the fact it rained for the majority of the day, overall the shoot was a huge success. However this is where the beauty of the barn comes into play; couples get the opportunity to make the space their own whilst having the protection and warmth of indoors as you can never plan for good weather in Britain! As well as our Rustic Barn, Byre and Courtyard we also have our Celebration Barn which can hold a lot more guests. This is a great industrial-style space, offering so much versatility when it comes to decor. It’s a huge, blank canvas space for florists, venue stylists and couples to go wild with and really show off their creative flair. We didn’t use the Celebration Barn for this shoot as we were still renovating it, however watch this space for photos to come!

Hello There Films create romantic story led films which was exactly the vibe we were after for the shoot; each story is different and unique but it’s not dependent on a certain venue type or how you’ve styled your day, its all about you and the happiness of your day. Emma Ryan’s photography style is emotive and timeless, which played perfectly with our soft, elegant pastel theme.
