Lucy & Tom’s Marquee Wedding at Broadfield

Written by Emma Hla
Lucy and Tom’s love story took a beautiful turn amidst the peaceful allure of Broadfield Court in Herefordshire, where their dream wedding came to life in August 2022.

During the uncertainty of a pandemic, they searched for a venue that perfectly aligned with their desires – a 2-3 day house hire, the freedom to choose suppliers, space for 20 guests to stay, and a picturesque countryside setting. When they discovered Broadfield Court, it was love at first sight.

Notes from the Bride

Lucy says…

In lockdown, our hearts found solace in the enchanting beauty of Broadfield. It fulfilled our every wedding wish – dry hire, a 2-3 day house rental, the freedom to choose suppliers, and space for 20 guests to stay, all set in the picturesque countryside with a capacity for 120 guests. Limited to virtual viewings due to the pandemic, Frances kindly gave us a video tour, and once we met her and experienced the house in person, we knew it was the one. Our three-hour journey from Surrey was worth every minute; we instantly loved the setting.

Embracing the twists and turns of life, we had to postpone our wedding date due to Covid. Waiting for over two years for our dream wedding tested our patience, but in the end, the wait was worth it.

In my search for the perfect dress, I tried on countless designs from various designers and boutiques. However, I found true elegance in Suzanne Neville’s Calla dress at Ellie Sanderson. It made me feel sophisticated, timeless, and beautiful, accentuating the features I like the most. For my shoes, I opted for Steve Madden from ASOS. Rebecca Claire artfully styled my hair while I chose to do my own makeup. Tom looked dashing in a navy black tie, even on the hottest day of the year! As for bridesmaids, I decided to forego the traditional route.

Our style reflected our love for supporting local businesses and cherishing moments with family and friends. In the end, the little details didn’t matter; the love and unity made our celebration truly special. Although I had envisioned a light blue and white colour scheme, the floral display from Luna Bloom, who grew their flowers on a flower farm, took on a delightful twist due to the August drought. Nevertheless, the arrangement was a stunning best of British meadow.

Capturing every cherished moment, Emily Jayne Weddings, a family friend, left us with beautiful images we’ll forever treasure. Paragon Productions skillfully preserved the magic of our day through heartfelt videos.

Best part of the day

The most unforgettable moment came halfway through the speeches when our entire family, all 44 of them, surprised us with a dance to ‘We Are Family’ by Sister Sledge. The joy and love in the room were palpable, especially after my Mum’s emotional Father of the Bride speech. It was a truly magical and mood-lifting surprise.

From one couple to another…

Remember to cherish the entire experience, not just the wedding day. Prepare for last-minute changes and delegate tasks in advance to make the planning process smoother. Don’t fret over the small stuff; your guests won’t notice, and all that matters is the love and joy shared in the company of your loved ones. And as a tip, plan for a relaxed ‘day after the wedding’ to bask in the afterglow of your special day – it’s worth every penny.
