Hannah & Alex’s Boho Inspired Garden Ceremony

Written by Emma Hla
This enchanting real wedding story follows Hannah & Alex on their journey to find the perfect venue for their dream Devon beach wedding. Initially disheartened by the lack of character they encountered in other venues, they discovered the magical Hayne.

The exquisite walled garden with its stunning backdrop of rolling hills immediately captured their hearts, and the exclusive hire for the entire weekend allowed them to host a pre-wedding party and soak up the venue’s natural beauty.

Despite a difficult few months leading up to the wedding, the couple was surrounded by the love and energy of their family and friends, making the weekend extra special. For those seeking a unique and magical wedding experience, Hayne is the perfect venue.

Notes from the Bride

Hannah says…

Initially I saw myself having a Devon beach wedding with the backdrop of the sea but was disappointed with all the venue styles that we saw. Fairly conference like, no character, no warmth, not our style or personalities at all. When I discovered Hayne online the enchanted images blew me away. We visited Hayne on a cold February day in the pouring rain and I fell in love with it immediately.

The walled garden with the backdrop of the owners gorgeous home sold it to me there and then, even on a soggy day. The threshold barn accommodated our large wedding guest list and the view of the rolling hills really suited us as a couple. Hayne also gives exclusivity for the whole weekend so we were able to have guest arrive on the Friday afternoon and throw night before party too! I cancelled our other wedding venue viewings as we drove home and was so excited we had found THE venue for us.

For my dress I knew I wanted a boho style, a simple silhouette but with added dramatics. I found Made with Love, an Australian brand, on Instagram and knew their style was me! I went with a style which had long hanging lace sleeves which gave the wow factor! The top lace and sleeves was also removable for the evening so I had two dresses in one to party the night away with!

My husband loves country tweed so had his 3-piece suit handmade at a Bristol tailor. His waist coat lining was a William Morris print which allowed him to stand out when his suit jacket was off (which was a lot in the July heatwave!).

I wanted to embrace Haynes natural setting as I loved it so much so didn’t want anything matchy-matchy and all natural from Hayne. Its flowers, trees and beauty speak for itself. All the flowers were home grown and put together by Mila the venue owner. July blooms, beautiful foliage, all bright colours.

I had pinned my cake design on Pinterest from the very beginning; a 3-tier white butter cream with wild edible flowers covering all three layers of chocolate, red velvet and lemon cake. For the wedding breakfast we went with sharing platters of minted lamb, lemon salmon and rich Mac & cheese, then a variety of nourishing sides and rustic bread. I’d initially said beef, chicken and a veggie option but the catering company (Posh Nosh) encouraged me to go with my personal tastes and likes as this was our day. I was so happy they made this comment as everyone was raving about the food and still are today!

I’d viewed Jules, Rockrose Photography portfolio online and it was our style as a couple so it was an easy choice! She understood our relaxed style and the fact I wanted more candid images than truly posed. We still had the traditional shots but again it wasn’t done in a stiff manner. I was so happy with the final album and love looking through them maybe a little too often… haha! Jules also offers a pre-shoot which really helped us get into a groove for the wedding (we’re not natural posers!).

Best part of the day

The best part of the day was having all our family & friends surround us with the biggest energy and love. We’d had a couple of rough months prior to the big weekend wedding and our 5-month old daughter actually ended up in Exeter hospital the Thursday night prior, so the fact we had everyone we love and care around us to support us really made it an extra special weekend. It was very emotional!

From one couple to another…

For every part and detail of the wedding, go with who you are as a couple. Don’t cater for other people, it’s your day and all your wedding guests want to see your take of your special day. Don’t please other people, please yourselves, you won’t regret it!
