Free Spirited Camper Van Elopement at Spirit Lake

Written by Caitlin Hoare
“We wanted to embrace nature and reflect the free spirited and adventurous spirit of our couple with an elopement by the lake.”

It’s becoming ever clear that there is no ‘right way’ to get married anymore. Whether it’s a traditional ritual-filled ceremony played out in front of your growing family or an intimate lakeside joining of hands. What remains is a marriage and an adventure with the person who knows and loves you most in this world.

Spirit Lake in Surrey was the perfect choice of location for this outdoors-inspired elopement shoot. Queue camper van envy, an incredible eco-friendly cake and dancing in the rain…totally gorgeous!

Notes from the Photographer

Heather says…

We wanted a private and secluded outdoor venue in Surrey with a lake and lots of open space for our elopement shoot.

Spirit Lake, part of the Fiesta Fields collection, suited our free spirited and care free vibe of the shoot perfectly. It allowed us to create our own multiple set ups including a hex arch by the lake for our couple to exchange vows as well as a place for the campervan to be set up for fun couple photos.

Spirit Lake is a beautiful venue with natural woodland, acres of land and felt very natural and wild, which is what we wanted.

Our elopement shoot was care free and wild, which was reflected in the styling and venue. We wanted to embrace nature and reflect the free spirited and adventurous spirit of our couple with an elopement by the lake.

We used earthy yet bright colours, focusing on burnt orange, yellow and teal as well as warm browns and greens. This was reflected in the florals and makeup, as well as the stationery and cake.

Our bride Ysabella wore 2 vintage lace dresses from Poppy Perspective, with lots of tassels, fringing and lace details for a care free and bohemian style – very unstructured and flowy. We also styled a tan fedora hat complete with dried flowers, for a carefree rustic vibe.

Rosie our hair and makeup artist created a beautiful Chinese lattice braid as well as stunning warm coral tones for the makeup, perfect for our boho babe!

We wanted a young, fun and modern vibe for our groom Alex and he looked great in a burnt orange suit from Boohoo Man and slim black trousers.

Buttercup Bus featured one of their cream vintage VW campers Pushka, perfect for our couple to arrive to the venue in and drive away to their honeymoon or road trip. The vintage camper added a fun and non-traditional vibe plus it was a great backdrop for photos, especially when decorated with florals.

For our ceremony we had a wooden hex arch with a hanging macrame pink ombre backdrop as well as rustic props from Wilderness Prop Hire.

Grania from Ink & Paper Design created a bold and modern stationery suite for our couple’s elopement announcement, with her signature debossed effect for a ‘pillowy’ look. The coloured envelopes and handwritten calligraphy was the perfect finishing touch.

Love From Lila created a beautiful sustainable and eco friendly cake with biodegradable elements, which was the perfect mix of rustic and modern with dried flowers and berries. The dripped caramel added a fun finish to the cake.

Zuzanna from Bloomantic created dreamy floral arrangements for the wooden hex arch, on the campervan, the bouquet, as well as dried flowers for the hat. She created unstructured and textured arrangements incorporating the colour palette, using eucalyptus, ruscus and grevillea. She also added in additional flowers for colour such as orange pompom dahlias, white and red helichrysums, yellow pincushion protea, craspedia, blue globe thistle and orange roses. As well as a touch of dried typha and bleached ruscus.

The hat was decorated with natural and peach pampas grass, broom bloom, bunny tails, wheat and orange and yellow flowers.

We feel our elopement shoot would inspire adventurous, wild and care free lovers who appreciate the beauty of nature, to get creative and get married somewhere wild and make the styling their own!

The vintage campervan is also a really cute addition for couples to elope in or transport their wedding party to the venue! We even had our groom serenade our bride with a ukulele in the camper for a sweet romantic moment.
