‘Apple of My Eye’ ft. the Orchards at Harefield Barn

by Caitlin Hoare
Images by Mimosa Photography.
“Nature gives us so much to work with”

Isn’t that the truth, and the perfect brief for this colourful, seasonal editorial which took place at Harefield Barn and their bountiful orchards. I am partial to a smattering of seasonal fruit and vegetables nestled amongst wedding florals so I was delighted to spot apples, pears and pretty squashes adorning the tables here, as well that exceptional looking roast dinner!

I absolutely adore this feature; the rich autumnal colour palette, the stylish bridal style, and of course that glorious golden crown. These beautiful images immediately make me want to skip ahead to all the gorgeous October weddings that will be coming up soon. Not long now…

Notes from the Stylist

Phoebe says…

Situated amidst the lush fields and rolling farmland of Devon, Harefield Barn and its orchards were the perfect setting for this editorial. Featuring a modern, autumnal aesthetic with medieval feasting vibes, the barn sits perfectly amidst the corn and wheat fields surrounding it.

Drawing on orchards and harvest time, this autumnal shoot brought together my love of clashing colours and the bountifulness of the countryside. Doused in a good helping of deep autumnal colours with gold, reds, burgundies, pinks and oranges hues present throughout.

We had three looks for our bride including a very simple, natural look with the Daisy dress through to the stunning Adrienne dress, which was accompanied by an incredible commissioned crown. Sarah Treble was a perfect choice for dress designer as she houses her couture collection of wedding gowns in her Exeter studio, and The Lucky Sixpence foraged for acorns and wheat sheaves to create our autumn halo crown. Yumé Jewellery, based on the edges of Dartmoor, has fabulous non traditional jewellery that I have wanted to showcase for a while. Our hair and makeup dream team of Laura le Page and Bridal Hair by Roseanne, created contemporary but romantic looks for our bride, with an autumnal pop of lip colour.

Jewel coloured glasses, dramatic flowers and foliage, and apple-laden boughs mixed with vintage suitcases and rugs created the perfect background. Reclaimed artisan backdrops and adornments, hand dyed silk ribbons and handmade ethical jewellery showcase the wealth of cool, conscientious suppliers we have down here in the South West. The cakes were deliciously elegant in their simplicity adorned with seasonal flowers and foraged crab apples and the feasting table bursting with the colour and flavours of roast pork and cider soaked gravy manages to showcase the best of the West Country!

Amanda Winsor, a master florist, created stunning and wild foliage and floral arrangements to complement the autumnal theme and decorate the ever popular triangle arch. Ours was made by the ethical company Glas Events who try to reclaim, repurpose and recycle as much as they can within their event hire company.

The stationery by Violet Paper Studio was created especially, and was magic to work with – she had truly understood and captured the brief perfectly – look out for the apple leaf illustrations she came up with – just stunning!

Lovers of colour unite! Bright, bold, clashing colours set off weddings in true style. So many little details throughout this editorial could be incorporated into a couple’s big day. For example, I’m a huge fan of using seasonal fruits in my styling – whether that’s apples in autumn like this shoot – or strawberries and lemons in summer – nature gives us so much to work with!
