Although located just 10 minutes from Exeter, Harefield Barn feels like a world away. Situated on a family farm in the beautiful Devon countryside, this carefully designed venue has flexibility and personal service at its heart.
Making the most of its elevated position, Harefield Barn is flooded with light from the huge expanse of windows, providing fabulous far-reaching views over Devon’s rolling hills. The terrace gives way to lawned areas, is excellent for garden games and children’s play, and is flanked by a wildflower meadow and cornfield with cider orchards nearby, making it perfect for some special photos.
Exeter St Davids station is only 10 minutes away by taxi, as is Crediton. They also have great parking and the ability to leave cars overnight, so your guests don’t have to worry about toasting your happiness! There is good access to mini-buses, too.
Harefield Barn has a fresh, modern appearance but has plenty of character features, such as stunning scissor beams in the hall and a cosy wood-burning stove in the bar. Once described as ‘barn chic’, the decoration is kept to a minimum, so couples can use it as a blank canvas to create their own style of event should they wish. Underfloor heating throughout makes it perfect, whatever the weather, and on a lovely day, bifold doors open onto the terrace from both the bar and main hall, making it a truly inside/outside venue.
Versatility is key, with their licence allowing for ceremonies anywhere on site from 2 to 200 (standing) guests. Five beautiful village churches are within three miles, so Harefield Barn also makes the perfect spot for a fabulous rustic reception.
This is a family business, and they want to keep it that way! To maintain the personal nature of what they offer, they have chosen to limit the number of weddings they host each year so the team can give each one the attention it deserves. Therefore, you have exclusive use of Harefield Barn for two full days, giving you time to relax and enjoy the experience of a lifetime. However, they try to be flexible and inclusive, so you can always ask for other options.
There is no accommodation on site, but there are plenty of wonderful B&Bs, cottages and hotels within easy reach, and you can camp if you wish. A great party house and a beautiful cottage complex are nearby, perfect for a weekend-long family gathering.
Their prices are kept simple to help you with your planning, so they include many little extras that you may (or may not) choose for your day:
Although they are mainly considered a ‘dry hire’ venue, the team are there to help you every step of the way and would be delighted to recommend a fabulous wedding planner who could offer you a full planning service.
They will certainly have a staff member on-site from when you arrive until your last guest leaves (with additional help to move furniture, etc, if required). Again, flexibility is key, so if you need a particular service plan, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Yes, you can! We are huge fans of a fireworks display and have the perfect location. The field next to the Barn falls gently away, so you can stand on the terrace and watch everything in style. It's even possible to make it a complete surprise, as the set-up can happen discreetly, without your guests knowing a thing! We have had some simply stunning displays with and without music. We ask that they be finished by 11pm and only carried out by a professional firework company.
Of course you can! Some of the most amazing unposed photos are taken whilst happy couples are being bombarded with a shower of confetti, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Our only stipulation is that the confetti should consist of real petals only, either fresh or dried.
We don't have any accommodation on site but look at a few of the beautiful local places to stay on our website. These include cottages, B&Bs, lovely country pubs and many more, but being just a 10-minute taxi ride from Exeter or Crediton means it's easy to access all the hotels and other accommodation there too. Or, if you prefer, you can opt to camp on-site, either with your own kit or by hiring luxury bell tents for your guests to use.
We provide round tables and chairs for your event, with some trestles for top or side tables. However, you are more than welcome to hire any different furniture to create a different vibe for your day, and we can help you with the best local companies to use for this.
150 acres - or about ten fields of it! In practice, of course, your guests will not go far, but immediately around the Barn, we have large lawned areas, a meadow and a corn field, so there is plenty of space for outdoor games and children to run. We also have stunning views and orchards to enjoy on the farm, and we are happy for you and your photographer to use them for an engagement shoot or during the wedding day.
You certainly can! As licensed premises, you can hold your ceremony anywhere within the Barn or on our grounds.
You can indeed. We ask that they be collected before lunchtime the day after your event.
Definitely not! Once you have made your grand exit at the end of the evening, we will clear down all your belongings and pack them for you or your helpers to collect the next morning.
No. We look after all the furniture set up and removal according to your requirements, which will have been discussed at your final planning meeting.
We provide a fire pit complete with logs and light and manage it for you during the evening as appropriate, so make sure you have marshmallows to hand for those late-night toastings!
