“We wanted a dry hire venue where we had the freedom to bring our personalities to our wedding…”

This bright, brilliant and bespoke celebration for A+A took place on a gorgeous summer’s day last August and the couple injected lots of personal touches and sentimental details. Not to mention, this wedding has one of the best confetti shots I’ve ever seen!

Notes from the Bride

Alice says…

Bake Barn is a rustic barn in the middle of the Wiltshire countryside. We wanted a dry hire venue where we had the freedom to bring our personalities to our wedding. We had the barn for four days and were able to set up as we wished. The location is stunning and the space is so usable. We loved the big metal door to the Barn and the incredible ancient walls that look gorgeous just as they are. Almost no need to decorate! We wanted to use our own suppliers to ensure we could have the food, music and look that was truly ours. We loved the barn instantly for the sheer beauty of it but it was such an easy experience with the team there that we loved it even more for the freedom to express ourselves.

The dress was classic and simple, I loved the back detail as soon as I saw it. Adam and his groomsmen had brilliantly colourful waistcoats under their morning suits, just to make it a bit different. My bridesmaids were in royal blue as it was a colour that suited them all. I wanted to make sure they felt happy and able to dance. Dancing was so important for us at our wedding. I had a quick change into a simple slip dress and some sparkling white trainers for dancing. Much more freedom than the heels I wore for the day.

We love to travel and have done lots of it in Africa, Adam has family in Kenya and grew up there. We wanted to tie in bright and bold colours of the continent. Our table runners and candlesticks were brought from Kenya by Adam’s aunt. A true labour of love! We also had chitenge material slug from the beams in the barn over our dancefloor. The roof soars above you and we wanted people to look up and see. The hanging candles in the marquee were a later addition and really twinkled as the sun went down on our sunshine drenched August day. They appeared to hang in mid air, I couldn’t recommend them more!

Kate Robinson was our florist. The bouquets felt like they were bursting with flowers in white, yellow, spots of blue and pink. I loved throwing that bouquet! At the Barn we kept it simple and stunning with lots of foliage and lots of big blooms. Our marquee had a gorgeous lining that meant we could keep it paired back with table flowers in individual vases in all sorts of colours and hanging foliage above the tables with hanging candles and exposed filament light bulbs.

Ohhhh cake, three tiers of cake. Delicious. Sarah Chapman was our caterer from Indulge and she helped us create a feast for our friends and family. We wanted long dining tables for maximum guests but also the space to create free flowing conversation. We wanted comfort food so opted for sausage rolls, lamb with a pistachio crumb and big salads. A true banquet for everyone. People stayed at the tables for hours – always the sign of an exceptional meal.

Nick at Wild Weddings was brilliant. We’re not that comfortable with really posed photos but his team recognised that and they took some candid shots that we love. It’s always lovely to have some photos of the day that really capture the moment. I love the shots of people at the wedding breakfast, everyone looks like they are having the best time! That’s all you can ask for. He also managed to get a few of just us together which we treasure.

Best part of the day

We loved it all. Seeing all our family and friends in one place after Covid cancelling our original date, and then another date, brought us so much joy. Drinks and our band in the sunshine at Bake Barn was a real highlight. Looking out over the Wiltshire countryside in the glorious sunshine feeling excited about the evening ahead.

From one couple to another…

Make it your own. It can be harder work to arrange a dry hire venue but it truly pays off. We loved being able to bring our personalities to the day through splashes of colour, references to Africa, and with our family and friends helping with bits and pieces too. It makes for a truly magical day that is truly yours.
