An Earthly Love; Bohemian Styled Shoot Inspiration
It was pretty much one year ago (Halloween 2014 to be exact!) that I was standing in a rather muddy, eerily misty and yet utterly romantic setting. The location was River Cottage and we were shooting our Bohemian Beats editorial – An Earthly Love.
Our winter inspiration was to be wild, raw, bohemian and dramatic. We wanted luscious greens with soft icy lilac, heart-warming feasts and kisses by campfires… We got all of this and more from this gorgeous wedding venue in Devon.
We’re so lucky with our collaborative styled shoots to work with some of the industries best! Once again I teamed up with our resident Wedding Planner – Katrina Otter and firm fave Rebecca Goddard Photography. Our florals were created by in-house expert Amber Persia and thanks to Miss Bush Bridal we had lots of delicious frocks to play with!
But before you set out to do a styled shoot, you must have the concept. Much like your own wedding day, you want to document your thoughts and ideas to ensure your styling is consistent, dreamy and reflective of you… So here’s my inspiration behind An Earthly Love; a luxurious Boho wedding.

Our Bride was to be a Bohemian Princess and although we were in a very rustic setting, we wanted our girl to ooze a bit high fashion glamour; think coloured lace, flowing tulle, cozy knits and designer accessories. Her many looks would take her from soft pretty plaits with bold brows through to wild locks, dramatic lips and glimpses of golden body art.
Our flowers needed to have that just picked vibe, as if our Bride had foraged her own bouquet from the gardens. I’m a huge fan of foliage and herbs, so this needed to be seen in abundance. For a hint of colour I imagined berry red or the softest purples.
River Cottage is iconic and our tablescape had to compliment our famous surroundings. We wanted seasonal produce, hand-died linens, fresh herbs and foliage, dripping candles and a hint of luxury with golden touches from the cutlery and stationery.
A bohemian wedding calls for a boy with a beard right…? Our Groom would be just smart enough in rolled up sleeves, tweed jacket, denim and beaten boots. I also wanted to create a miniature wreath for a buttonhole, stepping away from the traditional. To escape the elements, there’s nothing better than keeping warm with your beau sat beside a fire sipping on soothing winter cocktails.
Spending the day at River Cottage was pretty epic and this has to be one of my favourite projects ever and I’m so pleased to say that our efforts were rewarded by this shoot being featured on two wonderful wedding blogs and indeed in print.
