Let’s face it, the veil (much like the wedding dress) is most likely only going to be worn once. But gosh ladies, it’s totally worth it…
I’m a sucker for a spot of tulle (or lashings of it for that matter!) and I sported a cut edge two-tier cathedral length veil on my big day, I simply adored wearing it. However, I know wedding veils can seem a little daunting at first and possibly even a little too traditional for some Brides-to-be…? There also seems to be a multitude of choices out there and how do you know which veil compliments your chosen wedding dress…? Plus, is a veil even right for that rustic barn you’ve booked…?
Well, to help you navigate your way through the wedding veil world, we have some help from the folks behind Britten.
Britten is a beautiful English brand that focuses on creating divine wedding veils & accessories in their utterly charming and elegant new surroundings in Bradford-on-Avon (close to Bath). The Britten Bridal Boutique is stunning 15th Century building, with white washed floors, regency chairs and a fabulous oversized baroque mirror – perfect for playing dress-up! Here you can browse their accessories and discuss your big-day styling with the passionate and creative in-house team.
As well as selling from their collections directly at the boutique and online, they also offer a bespoke veil service if you have something very specific in mind or want a one-off design.
But, first things first! Where to get started…? Well, whether you’re pondering a classic wedding veil, wondering what a birdcage veil looks like, or fancy knowing the difference between a drop veil and a fingertip veil – we’ve got four simple tips to kick-start your veil shopping!
Tip # 1
If your dress is heavily embellished or a complicated design then choose a simpler veil. Cut Edge Veils with no lace embellishment are perfect, especially if you’d like a two tier veil with it’s delicate blusher in front of your face.
Tip # 2
Getting married outside or in a rustic venue? Go for a Fingertip Veil, tulle doesn’t deal with rough and ready surfaces well!
Tip # 3
Drop Veils are incredibly versatile but if you want to show off your detailed dress then they are particularly great, the sheer nature of a drop veil draws the attention.
Tip # 4
Always, always, always buy veil samples! These swatches are a small investment in time and money and it will save you a lot of bother!
