Mr & Mrs Palmer’s Wedding at Saltmarshe Hall

Written by Caitlin Hoare
Have you ever wondered what the perfect wedding ceremony setting looks in the UK? This!

Clear blue skies – check, festoon lights – check, chairs lining an avenue of trees – check, carpet of autumn leaves underfoot – check! Y + D certainly got lucky with the weather but they also chose the most beautiful venue, Saltmarshe Hall as the backdrop to their big day – perfection!

Notes from the Bride

Yasmin says…

Saltmarshe Hall was the only venue we viewed and we knew straight away it was perfect for us. We wanted an exclusive venue for our family and friends to enjoy over a full weekend set in picturesque grounds where we could have the ceremony and reception all in one, with lots of delicious food and drink!

The drive up to the hall is just breathtaking and once inside it is the perfect mix of old and new and we completely fell in love, it just felt right and like ‘us’.

There is a grand feel to the hall whilst still feeling like home, creating a relaxed vibe. All of this aside, every single person working there are just amazing! Ashleigh and the team made us feel like family the whole time and were just as enthusiastic about our wedding as we were. We had full confidence in every person there to help make our wedding perfect and they did not disappoint.

We wanted a classic and timeless feel to the fashion on the day and opted for a black tie look.

I visited a few different shops when searching for ‘the one’, and in the end my ‘bridal vision’ completely changed and I went with a dress opposite to what I thought I wanted. With the help of Rebecca at Hummingbird Bridal, I ended up with a beautiful Enzoani gown in a mermaid silhouette with a full tulle train that cascades from the hip with a full beaded body and teamed this with an dramatic train with beautiful detail matching that of the dress. Due to the drama of my dress I didn’t want any jewellery so instead just wore my watch, my Mothers engagement ring as my ‘something borrowed’ and ‘something blue’, and a dainty bracelet Dan sent me on the morning of our wedding.

I wanted my bridesmaids to look and feel amazing and for people to talk about how great they looked after the wedding, so there was no question who I wanted to make their dresses.. it had to be Rene K. We went with a rich forest green colour in a mermaid shape to complement my dress, and they looked perfect.

For the men we wanted a classic and timeless look so opted for black tuxedos, black waistcoats and bow ties. The suits were probably the hardest to sort but they all looked so handsome on the day.

Jess at The Creative Quarter created a simple updo with loose curls for me, and all the bridesmaids had their hair down in curls to keep a beautiful classic look. My make up was done by the amazing Billie at TCQ and my bridesmaids by Georgina at Juxtapose.

Our style in general is minimal, so with this in mind and not wanting to take away from the features and the hall, we opted for simple décor with a palette of green, cream and white flowers, soft white fabrics, clear acrylics and candles.

We knew from our first meeting that Sue at Pollen was the one. She was so passionate and understood what we wanted straight away and was so easy to bounce ideas off. The staircase at Saltmarshe Hall is such a statement when walking through the door so we decided to dress the bottom of the staircase and the top bannister to wow guests as they arrived. My lovely Dad made our sign stands and aisle displays which were also dressed. Our centrepieces were a mixture of floating candles and lots of trailing greenery and flowers. We had a mixture of white hydrangeas, white roses, eucalyptus and ferns.

We wanted a relaxed feel where people felt comfortable to enjoy every aspect of the day, so had a selection of canapés, followed by sharing board for our starters, then Featherstone’s Finest Fillet Steak, Yorkshire Pudding, Braised Carrots, Roast Potatoes & Rich Pan Gravy for our main, finishing on White Chocolate Trash Cheesecake, Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert. Chef created this delicious menu which every raved about! We then had tea and coffee accompanied by a donut wall from The Confectionary Lounge.

Lots of tasty food was a big thing for us so we decided to have a dessert table created by Zoe at Prince of Cupcakes. We had a 3 tier cake, cupcakes, customised biscuits and cake hearts. Zoe took our idea and brought it to life, making it even better than we imagined.

We had the very talented Mark Crayden photograph our day. Mark was the first supplier we booked. We even met with Mark before we had a final date for the wedding. Mark has photographed a few of our friends weddings and we love his relaxed approach, capturing natural moments. We didn’t want hours of day taken up from formal stuffy photos, but instead images to look back on our family and friends enjoying the day.

Best part of the day

My favourite part of the day was our ceremony. I was so full of adrenaline, excitement, and love. I just couldn’t wait to marry Dan and it was so amazing to see all of our closest family and friends there so happy for us and there to celebrate with us. Being able to share such a special moment with the people we love most meant the most to me.

From one couple to another…

Take a few moment just you and your new husband to soak everything in. Look at the love surrounding your day and the happiness and everything you have planned all coming together.

Remember the day is about you as a couple. Stick to what you want and what feels right for you, don’t feel you have to do things ‘just because’. It will be perfect!
