Sam & Tom’s Heaton House Farm Wedding

Written by Emma Hla

A rural farm, a blush pink dress, an outdoor ceremony & a first dance under a glittering canopy. The wedding of Sam & Tom is pretty gorgeous and it was all captured by the striking Bridgwood Wedding Photography.

Delve into this Heaton House Farm wedding day…

Notes from the Bride

Sam:

We got engaged in Summer 2014 and we immediately began to plan our wedding, fuelled by excitement. We started by viewing traditional wedding venues; Castles, great halls and the like, but that theme didn’t seem to take us. A couple of weeks later, Sam brought up the idea of a “farm wedding” and we were hooked! We viewed a few barns and after visiting one particular venue in Preston, we found ourself “trying” to love it, to no avail.

One afternoon, we travelled down to Rushton Spencer, to view Heaton House Farm. The moment we pulled in to the car park, we both fell in love with it. Everything; from the car park, to the entrance; the rooms and ceremony settings to the dining barn… Simply stunning! To top it off, the owner showed us around the whole venue, allowing us ample time to soak up the atmosphere and begin imagining our perfect wedding. The view from the gardens was spellbinding, and we decided that we would tie the knot under the outdoor pagoda.

We set out planning our theme and décor. Obviously we wanted to compliment the setting, and after toying with various ideas, we settled on a simple layout of milk jugs, hay, jars, bottles, bunting and plenty of gypsophila! Hints of pinks and creams helped to maximise the rustic feel. We actually ended up making an awful lot of the decorations ourselves, and countless evenings were to be spent creating favours, boxes, place cards, jars, table plans etc. The end result was a farm-themed, barn wedding, with hay spilling out from around each table feature.

We used two florists; Flowers by Jemma created the bridal bouquets – A raffia-tied bunch of gypsophila, dusky pink roses and understated foliage. They also provided gypsi and rose buttonholes, and thank-you bouquets.

Diddybox created a similar collection of pink and white roses, gypsi, lilies and rustic foliage; all arranged in the table-centre milk jugs. They also supplied a huge bunch of gypsophila, which we divided between our collection of decorated jars and bottles that were dotted around. Both florists outdid themselves and their floral input really brought all the different aspects of our theme together. We wanted people to be constantly aware of their surroundings, and the florists most certainly achieved that!

I first saw my dress at Manchester Wedding Fair and, amazingly, the first dress that I ever tried on (…the first of many…!) ended up being my final choice: A 2015 Ronald Joyce – Eliza, in champagne, which hugged my figure in a corset-style (with button back), before flowing elegantly into a long train. I bought and fitted my dress with Because I Love You. On the day, I wore my hair up which I felt complimented the elegant dress, a small bunch of white & pink gypsophila was woven in to the style.

Samantha Mercer and Jenni from The Dollz organised and carried out all the bridal party’s hair and make up, we all decided to go for a natural look, allowing our own features to be accentuated by the talented ladies!

Tom searched hard for the ideal suit to fit in with Heaton House’s rural setting. Styles such as tweed, braces and checks were all considered. However, a three-piece grey suit, accompanied by floral ties and handkerchiefs, were the final style for the Groomsmen. Suits were sourced, believe it or not, from the Nation’s favourite… Primark! The handkerchiefs were created by our next door neighbour. The addition of pocket watches helped to tie in the theme.

Our cake was beautifully crafted by Victoria Cakes and featured three tiers of fruit, vanilla and chocolate, wrapped in champagne icing, with pink icing flowers cascading down.

We chose Beech Tree Caterers, who were one of Heaton House Farm’s recommended suppliers; they provided a huge choice of options, with us eventually settling on pâté/soup, steak/chicken and a range of desserts for our guests to chose from. Accompanying this, CNC Catering brought along a chocolate fountain, a candy floss machine and popcorn cart.

A Splendid Occasion provided their ever-popular photo booth (with props) – The prints were a great keepsake for our guests!

The day was perfect, from start to finish. The outdoor ceremony with the sun shining; The personalised beer clip in our farm bar; The pink hue that perfectly coloured the backdrop for our breakfast and speeches; The amazing party at the evening; Our first dance. Just everything. And who better to capture our memories than Steve from Bridgwood Wedding Photography. From the moment he arrived, he made us feel so relaxed. It felt like we had known Steve for ages and the whole experience ended up being such fantastic fun. The final product was presented impeccably, and the images portray our most perfect day in fine detail. We couldn’t recommend Steve any higher, you most simply have to book him!

Best Part of the Day…

Looking back over the whole of our wedding day, it really is so difficult to pick a favourite moment. However, we both agree that our coming together at the end of the aisle was the high point. It signified the moment when all the hard work, imagination, effort and planning paid off, and it was the moment the magic truly began.

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

If we could pass on a piece of advice, it would be to just savour every moment. Thursday 24th September 2015 flew by so fast for us, and we would do anything to relive our fairytale, farm wedding just one more time. Luckily, with the help of Bridgwood Wedding Photography, we can do the next best thing and flick through our stunning collection of photographs whenever we’re feeling a little nostalgic.

Our magical day was so brilliantly brought to life, with the help of our fantastic suppliers and willing guests, all together at our perfect venue.
