Rebecca & Tarik’s Aswanley Wedding

Written by Emma Hla
Kilts, Ceilidhs and cheese! Oh and the cutest pup in a bowtie. I’m not sure what else you could want on a Wednesday? Rebecca & Tarik chose the beautiful Aswanley in Scotland for their outdoor humanist ceremony and rustic barn celebration.
Notes from the Bride

Rebecca says…

We chose our venue as it most suited us as a couple. We were looking for a Scottish wedding venue that really showed the beauty of Scotland and Aswanley delivered that for us with the rolling green hills, stream, old forest and a hillside house with a barn. It was very relaxed but made enough of a statement for our wedding. The staff were also amazing. Lauren and Sarah could not do enough to make sure our day was special and ran it without any hiccups.

Aswanley was also a great place for a traditional Ceilidh dance, our band, The Sleekit Beasties, were absolutely amazing.

My Wedding dress was the ‘Athena’ from Suzanne Neville with a bespoke lace top all in ivory. My Shoes were Charlotte Mills and my hair piece was handmade by a local designer here in Aberdeenshire, Greypuss Jewellery.  My wedding Jewellery was a gift from my husband on the day from Finnies. My makeup was done by Natalie Fearnley and hair by Gemma Taylor.

My bridesmaids wore a charcoal gown from Vera Wang bought at David’s Bridal in Glasgow, whilst the boys kilts were from Gibbs in Inverurie.

The theme of the day was generally succulents! I wanted a laid back non-perfect looking style with the flowers to go with the barn. I had over sized dahlias and hydrangeas with eucalyptus. Lots of green! I couldn’t have picked a better florist and stylist to help me than Hazel from Robin’s Egg. Hazel was absolutely amazing and got my vision right from the start.

Our bouquets were beautiful… my one in particular was HUGE but Hazel made it perfect and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

I mostly planned and styled the day with help from my bridesmaids, florist and caterer. I tasked my maid of honor, who is a graphic designer, to design our wedding invites and all stationery for the day. She created signs, cards, menus, even the bathroom care packages we provided had a little design and personal poem. I printed them here as she lives in Australia and put them together for the day

Ou cake was by Mel from Enchanting Merchant Co. We had lemon drizzle on the bottom, white chocolate and raspberry for the middle and traditional wedding cake on the top. Our cake toppers were from Cakes by Kirsty – both ladies are local to Aberdeenshire.

Our caterer was Val Morrison. She was an absolute star. The food was amazing and all guests raved about it for months after. Val also helped with styling the barn – laying out all our individual menus, tying the thistle and olive branches to the napkins (my husband is half Lebanese so we incorporated little touches from Lebanon with the olive branches and Lebanese Arak drink favours for the boys). Girls had succulent plant favours which were sourced and planted by me and my mum!

We also had a cheese cake (rounds of Cheese) also styled by val our caterer, the cheese was from the Gourmet Cheese Shop on Rosemount in Aberdeen. In the evening we served our guests pizza by Pizza Box Scotland.

Emma Lawson’s photos are fantastic. She is direct and knows what she wants and that made it an easy and perfect day for us as we got all the photos we asked for and more. She was easy to work with and always had a smile. There was lots of laughter and we never felt anything but love and happiness on our day with her.

Best part of the day

Its so hard to say what the best part of the day was. I think it was right after our ceremony, my husband and I had a quick 5 minutes together on our own and it was great to have some Champagne and speak to him just as after getting married. It definitely brings a smile to my face now!

From one bride to another…

Involve your closest friends when planning your wedding, they are the ones that can help the most and take a load off. But most of all, it really does pass in a flash so don’t settle for anything other than what you want and most of all, enjoy it.
