Hannah & Josh’s Ever After Elopement

Written by Emma Hla
It’s always a pleasure featuring this beautiful, intimate wedding venue in Devon.

Ever After are elopement specialists and create the most stunning, stress-free celebrations for couples and their closest loved ones. After postponing their wedding from May due to Covid, Hannah & Josh chose this gorgeous spot to say ‘I do’ and we’re lucky enough to be reliving their big-small day thanks to Clare Kinchin Photography.

Notes from the Bride

Hannah says…

We chose Ever After as it couldn’t have been more of a perfect fit for us. Their elopement package was everything and more that we were looking for. It focuses on small and intimate weddings set in a gorgeous location. You get amazing photography, beautiful flowers, delicious food and very importantly a stress-free wedding experience. As all the above was thought about for us, we felt we could just enjoy the fun stuff – picking and choosing the finer details of what we wanted.

My dress was by Enzoani. I was drawn to the plunge neckline and the unique polka dot pattern which I hadn’t seen on any other dresses. I also loved the train which I had made detachable and wore just for the forest photos. The train made me feel like I had two dresses! Without the train my dress felt sleek and elegant. With the train it felt like more of a statement dress with more wow factor. I’m so pleased with how it looked in the forest photos and that I got to enjoy wearing it both ways.

For my hair I wanted a soft, loose up do which my hairdresser Ashleigh got spot on for me. I couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out! I had a gorgeous hair piece placed above the bun as I didn’t want a veil but still wanted something sparkly in my hair.

My husband wore a suit from Moss Bros. which he loved as it was tailored and fit perfectly. He actually had our original wedding date sewn into the inside, but we ended up having to reschedule because of covid and they couldn’t change it!

My stepson looked very smart in his shirt and waistcoat. He was so excited to get dressed up for the wedding and wear something similar to his dad as he is very much his mini me.

The team at the wedding venue styled the wedding areas for us based on our Pinterest board. I loved having the arch with draping fabric behind us when we said our vows and all the tea lights and lanterns scattered around the arch and then in the reception area. These really set the area off in the evening when it got darker. We also had pink & gold place cards and menus and the rest of the table wear followed this colour scheme.

Amanda Randell-Cox of Flowers Et Al was our florist. Again, Amanda went off some photos I found on Pinterest that I liked which were in different shades of light pink and included lots of eucalyptus and created my bouquet of dreams which was better than I could’ve ever imagined.

We went for a naked wedding cake made by Harrie at Boo to a Goose. It was coffee flavoured  and so delicious! It was decorated with flowers that were used in the bouquet/buttonholes and with a cake topper that had the initial of my husband’s surname.

The catering was by Taylor’s and was to die for! We had chicken satay starter, roast beef main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

Clare Kinchin was our amazing photographer. She really relaxed my nerves prior to the wedding and made the photographs a really enjoyable experience for everyone. She took us to the most gorgeous parts of the venue for our photos and at the time we didn’t take in our surroundings and realise how beautiful they were. So, when we got our photos back (the following morning!!) we were stunned and so in love with every single one of them. To pick a favourite would be impossible as she did the most incredible job and we’ll always be so grateful to her for capturing our special day for us to look back on through beautiful photos.

Best part of the day

It’s so hard to choose one best part!

One favourite moment was when we were standing, holding hands and saying our vows to each other. The photos of that part of our ceremony are so lovely as you can see the happiness in our faces. Another was when we went off alone for photos in the forest with Clare. This was really special as it was our first chance to be alone following the vows. I remember us saying to each other that we couldn’t believe we were finally married after postponing our wedding from May due to covid.

Finally, we had a really fun evening playing games, listening to music and enjoying drinks and wedding cake with my parents by the log fire. This was a really relaxing part of the day which made us so glad we’d had the wedding we really wanted and didn’t do something bigger just to please others.

From one bride to another…

Remember the day is about you two so have the wedding you really want, don’t do anything just to please other people.
