Chris & Allan’s The Lodge on Loch Goil Wedding

Written by Emma Hla

The Lodge on Loch Goil is an amazing 5 star exclusive use venue on the shores of a sea loch in the Scottish Highlands. Sitting peacefully in the natural beauty of its backdrop, the breath-taking views are incredible and it’s this location that stole the hearts of Chris & Allan.

It was a black tie affair for this super stylish couple and it only seems fitting they chose Scotland’s most stylish hotel.

Come and take a wee peek…

Notes from the Groom

Allan:

I grew up in Clydebank and Chris grew up on a farm in Dumfries and Galloway. We both live in Bearsden together now and work in Glasgow as lawyers. I have a daughter (Emma) who is 14 and lives very close to us in Bearsden. Both Chris and I really love life; we both enjoy our careers and use our holidays very well. We are very compatible when it comes to our mutual love of travel!

We both work at the same firm, but strangely rather than meeting through work (we worked in different offices back then), we met at a club after a work event by accident. We clicked immediately.

When it came to the wedding venue, we saw many different places, big and small. The Lodge on Loch Goil was in fact the last venue we visited but we both fell in love with it immediately. We could picture our wedding there and knew it would be special for our guests as well. Also – we had been thinking about our ideal date for the wedding (not that we were inflexible on the date), and none of the other venues were able to accommodate our ideal date, but The Lodge only had that one date remaining. It was like it was meant to be!

Magical is a good description of The Lodge. The setting is very tranquil, and extremely beautiful. There is a high quality to the venue and their service, but it comes with a level of flexibility and adaptability that means you can still maintain a very personal theme to your wedding. The ability to stay for the whole weekend with your main wedding party, and have time to catch-up and relax with them makes all the difference. Likewise, the exclusive use aspect means that you feel you have a beautiful house to welcome your guests into for the day itself – by which time it feels a bit like home! Very comfortable, relaxing, but with a high quality execution that we loved. Perfect for us.

For our honeymoon we flew to Boston, and spent 3 nights exploring there. We then took the ferry to Provincetown in Cape Cod and spent a week there. The Guest House we stayed in specialised in spa and massage treatments, so we tried a couple of those. We hired bikes and did lots of walking. We went on a whale watching trip (Chris is like an excited child when it comes to things like that), and of course we ate and drank plenty as well. A very relaxing break and another very beautiful part of the world.

So what now…? Well, Chris made partner at work relatively recently, so he’s quite focused on making sure he makes a success of his new role. I love what I do, and have some very exciting projects to keep me busy at work as well. Besides work, we have a lot of family and friends to try and keep up with and visit (including five young nieces and nephews). Chris runs a charity in his spare time (The Nepal Trust), and I am trying to bring my piano playing back up to the standard it once was again. Other than that, we have lots more travel plans to make, and places to see (starting with Disney in Florida with the kids very soon!)

Notes from the Wedding Director

Alice:

Chris & Allan were fabulous to work with, kind and friendly they were an absolute pleasure. Both Grooms were quite on the ball with regards to the planning and knew exactly what they wanted for their wedding day. The Lodge suited them perfectly as they have a holiday home nearby so knew the area and its beauty, making them feel right at home.

Prior to their big day, they had a pre-wedding dinner in our wonderful Arts & Crafts room with their close family. They dined on local west coast scallops, corn fed chicken and their favourite sticky toffee pudding.

The Wedding Day…

Chris & Allan awoke to a freshly prepared breakfast from our in house Chef, Daniel.

Hair & Makeup arrived and worked their magic up until lunch time when they were served afternoon tea, then shortly after their guests arrived, the Piper began to warm up for the ceremony.

The dress code was black tie which looked incredible, the group shots speak for themselves!

The original plan was to marry on the Terrace but the weather wasn’t the greatest, however we’d prepared our Orangery as a Plan B and it was stunning. They signed their paperwork in the Treehouse.

For their Wedding Breakfast they started with smoked Argyll Salmon, followed by our own Champagne sorbet. Buccleuch fillet of beef was followed by a delicious dark chocolate tart, raspberry sorbet and coco nib crisp. Champagne for the wedding was supplied by our partners, Veuve Cliquot. They had their own entertainment, The Toni James Band, and a firework display in the evening before partying into the night.

The following morning, Allan, Chris and the other residents of The Lodge enjoyed breakfast while their wedding guests wished them farewell on their departure.

This was absolutely one of the best weddings I’ve done this year, I really loved it and wish Chris & Allan a very happy marriage.
