Vicky & Jonny’s Summer Wedding at Thicket Priory

They got married on 13th August (one of the hottest days of the year ps!) in a dreamy al fresco ceremony under the bandstand at Thicket Priory, surrounded by beautiful blooms. Their balmy wedding day is classic, elegant and utterly chic, but with a light sprinkling of boho luxe – it’s the epitome of an English summer wedding (stunning sunset included) and I’m certain you’ll LOVE it as much as I do! Vicky says…

We loved Thicket Priory from the moment we set foot there. The building itself is just so beautiful to look at, the room decor is breathtaking and it seemed that every aspect of the venue had wonderful attention to detail. I love old buildings with loads of character – Thicket definitely had that! Not only that, but Becca was amazing right from our first meeting with her and we just knew that she and the rest of the team would create the wedding day of our dreams – and we were not disappointed!

I had a dream that I could get married amongst beautiful huge blooms of flowers in the outdoors. Nicola from Dittany Entwined battled against the heat to deliver just that – the bandstand was so beautiful and created the perfect backdrop for our ceremony. My bouquet lasted all day (despite me waving it around all day) and it was the perfect combination of classic and wild. The flowers had plenty of pampas grass too, that I now have sitting pretty in my hallway!

Sadly for everyone reading this, our wonderful cake-maker Charlotte Wilcox Cakes no longer makes wedding cakes for a living. But she made my cake dreams become a reality, with last minute changes to ensure the cake stood the test against the weather! We still have some in the freezer!

Baba Ganoush, our caterers, were marvellous! We had SO many people come up to us in the weeks and months afterwards saying that the food was some of the best they had ever had at a wedding and we couldn’t agree more. The portion sizes were very generous and the food was delicious.

Thicket will always hold such a special place in our hearts, with memories that we will treasure forever. Thank you to Becca, Anna, and everyone for helping to deliver the wedding that was better than we ever could have dreamt of, along with our amazing suppliers.

We also both loved walking into a room full of our family and friends at the wedding breakfast and also listening to the speeches, which were amazing and so thoughtful.

From one couple to another

• It is so, so hard leading up to your big day not to put copious amounts of pressure on yourselves that it has to in every way be ‘the perfect day’. No matter what happens (e.g. the hottest day of the year and very, very sweaty), you will have the time of your lives.
• The team at Thicket made everything run SEAMLESSLY on the day, so we didn’t have to worry about a thing, this is so important on your day!
• Perhaps don’t get too drunk before your portrait shots, or you may end up with some interesting photos.
• Have a makeup and hair trial, it helps to settle your nerves on the morning to know the people who are helping you get ready (Jessica and Kerry were a delight), but also to ensure you will be happy with your look!
• It’s your day – do whatever the heck YOU want. Make guests sit in the scorching sunshine to watch your ceremony, hide from people when you need a break, keep loads of cake for yourselves, make everyone do shots, drink from the bottle – you do you!
