‘For the love of the Dog…’

…and the horse. Both are very much welcome at this Dorset wedding venue! This beautiful outdoor editorial is the perfect intro to The Tithe Barn at Hinton St Mary Estate, one of our latest additions to the Venue Finder and brand new for 2021.

Explore their stunning grounds and the barn’s rich interiors, all of which is available on a dry hire basis so you can create a wedding weekend that’s truly yours.

Prepare for cuteness overload too, there’s pups galore and a just-married couple to boot. All the heart eyes!

Notes from the Venue

Gail says…

The Tithe Barn at Hinton St Mary is an historic venue with a rich family history, the Pitt-Rivers family have lived here for over 400 years and in years to come will be intrinsically linked to the Fox-Pitt family. With Fox-Pitt Eventing in the village, we felt it only appropriate to tie in the equestrian link, we offer livery after all at the yard, so why not have a bride with her steed, and a groom with his hounds. Dogs and horses are very welcome.

The theme was inspired by the portraits hanging on the walls, the richness of the warm tones and the decadence of Lady Ligonier, the Honourable Louisa Pitt. With gilt frames around the paintings we wanted to match this with coloured glassware, to recreate a time gone before in the barn’s history.

The strongest colour was a burnt orange, crushed velvet to compliment with the rustic wood and stone of the building. Spring yellow was to lift and lighten the room, the flowers to pop along the table. The colours were carried through with the stationery, the cake, the candles and of course the glassware.

Our models were willing newly-weds, no acting required and both revelled in the joy of wearing their outfits for a second time! The bride’s dress came from The Couture Gallery and was a classic yet modern design with a striking asymmetrical bow across the front. Victoria Fergusson provide the jewellery, a change of earrings, headbands and tiaras. Make-up was by the amazing Caroline of Amazing Face, and hair by Natalie Forsbrey. The icing on the cake was a riding hat inspired creation by Natasha Mobey Millinery.

The Tithe Barn needs little decoration. The style and concept was the inspiration of Rosie Barrett, stylist and wedding planner. The secret weapon was the beautiful biscuit coloured linen supplied by The Fabulous Company. She topped this with vintage brass candlesticks and amber water glasses. Laura of Lulabee Weddings supplied the place cards, menu cards, welcome sign and seating plan and threaded the burnt orange velvet wherever she could.

Emma, owner of Arcade Flowers based in Hampshire was the only choice for this shoot. I had worked with Emma many times in the past and just love her relaxed style and approach. Her arrangements tend to be seasonal, joyous with foraged foliage wherever possible. Poppies worked with golden mustard roses, eucalyptus and delphiniums, ranunculus, hellebore and anemone. She created an English Country Garden feel to complement the wonderful gardens of Hinton Manor.

The purpose of our shoot was to showcase the venue. New to weddings, we wanted the interior to come to life, to fill it with colour and texture. The surprising result was coupling the old, with the new. Who’d have paired biscuit coloured linen with amber water glasses? In a Victorian walled garden who’d have erected a tipi and filled with with Moroccan pouffs. The old and the new worked, the traditional and the modern can sit side by side. Be adventurous.
