Sustainable and Stylish at Treseren, Cornwall

by Emma Hla
Images by Ash Powell Photography.
Treseren, a charming Georgian country house in Cornwall, specialises in hosting intimate weddings. Its focus is on organic minimalism and sustainability.

With a commitment to balancing people, planet, and profit, their celebrations, limited to 22 guests, emphasise environmental responsibility without compromising on style. Their latest editorial shoot encapsulates this ethos, featuring cosy autumn/winter vibes and a muted monochrome palette. By partnering with local artisans and sustainable brands, Treseren ensures that every element of their weddings, from locally grown flowers to recycled-material bridalwear, is thoughtfully curated. Izzy, Stylist and Events Manager at Treseren, tells us more about how they seamlessly blend sustainability with elegance to create magical and eco-friendly wedding experiences.

Notes from the Venue

Izzy says…

At Treseren, we specialise in hosting really special, small weddings in our Georgian country house setting, with a maximum guest list of 22. We know that intimate, small weddings are more sustainable by nature and we have always been determined to build on this head start, carefully balancing people, planet and profit to create a sustainable and vibrant business. We are inspired by the brilliant small companies we work with who share our values and have become an extended part of the Treseren family. Their approach and ethos align with the principles we hold to create small and beautiful weddings that deliver quality, creativity and style, as well as prioritising a dedication to sustainability.

Sustainability and style have not always been side by side, and it could be argued that one is often considered to exist without the other. However, as we tiptoe on the edge of our ever-precarious environmental precipice, it is impossible to argue against the fact that sustainability should be a top priority in all that we do. A proud member of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance, Treseren is proof that a sustainable and stylish wedding is oh-so achievable; with a bit of consideration and the help of some amazing pioneering sustainable designers, sustainable luxury is here to stay.

This editorial at Treseren brought together a team of talented suppliers who are all passionate about their responsibility to create magical weddings that tread as lightly as possible on the environment. From locally grown British flowers from Emily at Three Acre Blooms to handcrafted eco-silver jewellery by Hannah Batstone and Hattie Wragg, this is timelessly elegant wedding inspiration.

“Treseren is proof that a sustainable and stylish wedding is oh-so achievable; with a bit of consideration and the help of some amazing pioneering sustainable designers, sustainable luxury is here to stay.”

We chose a muted monochrome palette for cosy autumn/winter wedding vibes—winter weddings at Treseren are particularly magical, as guests get to make themselves at home in their very own country house retreat, sipping cocktails with the fire lit.

The bride wore a sweeping strapless gown for the daytime celebrations (with pockets, of course) and changed into a fun cocktail dress as the day turned to night and Loveday’s Cocktail Bar became the place to be. E & W Couture and Medusa London are small, independent British bridal brands combining design and sustainability to shine a spotlight on the pathway to a new breed of bridalwear.

‘We love talking about our dedication to sustainability and ethics and pride ourselves on how open and honest we are about each part of our business. We always say if you can’t find an answer to what you’re looking for from a brand, chances are they don’t want you to know it. We’re so proud to use such a huge range of recycled and oeko-tex fabrics through our ranges. Some of our dresses are 100% recycled, which is unheard of in bridal!’ Sophie, E and W Couture

Highly commended in the Marie Claire 2023 Sustainability Awards, Medusa London creates their modern gowns with 100% GOTS-certified organic peace silk and incorporates recycled materials where possible, including their zippers, which are made from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles (one bottle = three zippers).

‘At Medusa, we believe that fashion and sustainability can coexist. Our commitment to using sustainable materials and practices is unwavering, and we are always looking for new and innovative ways to minimise our environmental impact. We care about our products, and we care about the people who make them.’ Agnese, Medusa London

The wedding rings were handmade by Hannah Batstone in Cornwall. Hannah’s jewellery is made using 100% recycled precious metals, drawing inspiration from the shapes and colours observed in the Cornish landscape. Statement earrings by Hattie Wragg were made using recycled silver and reclaimed vintage pearl drops; Hattie is dedicated to creating beautiful forever jewellery with sustainable materials and practices.

When it comes to styling the venue for your wedding day, flowers are often the starting point, and the sustainable choice really is easy—work with a florist who uses local, seasonal flowers. Emily at Three Acre Blooms grows a variety of beautiful British flowers just five minutes from Treseren, and her wild and romantic style creates a dreamy backdrop for a stylish celebration.

‘Aside from the obvious benefits of having beautiful smelling, organically grown flowers, by growing the flowers, I can choose some really special varieties to grow that simply aren’t available from the international flower markets, and that really does give my work a unique wild and naturalistic look which is not achievable when using imported flowers.’ Emily, Three Acre Blooms.
