Summer’s Blaze of Colour at The White Barn

Written by Caitlin Hoare
‘There is no set colour palette in nature,’ says Jennifer Jane Photography. Well, isn’t that the truth!

Today’s styled shoot is a perfect example of this; a parade of colour showcasing the rich vibrancy of summer. Peach, lemon, soft whites, coral and orange dance together surrounded by luscious greens, and that’s just the flowers. The entire scene, from the elegant stationery to the show-stopping wedding cake, is overflowing with vibrant, playful wedding inspiration, and the coral waistcoat and baby blue shirt/tie combo needs special mention. I sincerely hope a bold groom or two will go ahead and embrace colour for their festivities. What a joy!

The White Barn in Somerset was the venue of choice and provided the perfect blank canvas. This cleverly-designed monotone space complements every wedding style I’ve seen set within their four walls (and impressively high ceilings). The marker of a wonderfully versatile wedding venue, right?

Ok folks, get ready for a beautiful blaze of colour that you might not be able to shake for a while…

Notes from the Photographer

Jen says…

With its whitewashed walls and ceiling, and the most stunning barn doors, The White Barn in South Petherton offers a charming blank canvas for wedding couples to put their stamp on their wedding day without being restricted by busy patterned carpets and coloured walls. The barn is both rustic and elegant and offers old-world romance in the heart of the countryside in a setting that didn’t compete with the colourful palette of this shoot.

Flowers and naturally dyed textiles were carefully styled to showcase the barn’s focal points, including the staircase leading up to the mezzanine area and the iconic white barn doors, making for the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. The tablescape design was an opportunity to play with colours, such as the slate blue velvet tablecloth and coral pink silk ribbons, which adorned bespoke embroidered napkins. The cake completed the setup and comprised three deconstructed tiers. Each tier featured handcrafted sugar flowers and peaches, giving a subtle nod to the summery, zesty feel of the shoot.

The shoot was set in the summer. There is no set colour palette in nature, so Leanna from The Silk Studio wanted to carry this concept through to the shoot, allowing for a diverse, playful and expansive range of colours ranging from corals to blues to celebrate the joy of the summer.

The bride’s look features a textured updo incorporating a silk ribbon, fresh and dewy makeup, and coral lips. She wore a design by designer Josephine Scott that blended old-world romance with a more modern approach. It featured layers of luxury tulle and a one-shoulder ruffle. The look was completed with accessories designed and hand-made by award-winning designer Rachel Sokhal Bridal and hand-crafted shoes by shoe designer Diane Hassall tied with hand-dyed ribbons. The groom wore a custom-tailored suit, including a coral waistcoat, a light blue shirt, and sand-coloured chinos.

Beth from A Basket Full Of Blooms was a natural choice, with Bethan using a considerable amount of her home-grown blooms and foraged foliage within her designs. The vision for the shoot called for an abundance of flowers and texture, and Bethan didn’t disappoint. She created wild and unstructured floral arrangements up the staircase and the ceremony aisle. As well as the table arrangements and decor around the wedding cake. The bouquet was also wild and semi-unstructured to follow through on how nature grows as free and unconfined.

Couples can take inspiration in several ways. They can take inspiration from using hand-dyed ribbons and runners as a significant part of their wedding decor, using a more fluid colourful palette, or choosing a more socially conscious way regarding local suppliers and products.
