Stu & Sam’s Middleton Lodge Wedding

Written by Caitlin Hoare
I have a real soft spot for orangery wedding venues; impressive architecture, flooded in natural light and often surrounded by incredible country gardens.

Take just one look at Middleton Lodge‘s orangery, The Fig House, and you can see how it managed to blow Stu & Sam away from their very first visit. Their stylish summer wedding, captured by Sarah-Jane Ethan Photography, complemented this light and airy venue perfectly!

Notes from the Bride

Sam says…

The wedding co-ordinator at Middleton Lodge was a friend of my sisters and we just went for a little celebratory lunch and a look at the new orangery building, ‘The Fig House’ and fell in love with the gardens. Stuart loved it as much as I did. It was still a building site when we booked it, but we could see how amazing it was going to be.

I put off dress shopping for a while because I was worried I wouldn’t find ‘the one’. Rachel Ash Bridal Boutique was the first (and only) boutique I went to. The girls at Rachel Ash were amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I chose separates by Theia Couture – I went for an off the shoulder lace Bardot top for the ceremony and changed into a sequin crop for the evening do.

I really wanted a beaded boho dress, but I also loved the idea of a Bardot top. I never imagined wearing a two piece, but it meant I could have the best of both worlds with the lace Bardot and then the sparkles. The skirt was just dreamy. I planned to wear flowers in my hair, but decided to wear my hair down at the last minute so the flower girls carried the flowers instead.

I designed and Stuart made a large copper hexagon for the front of the aisle. We also made some acrylic signs and polaroid frames for around the venue and a welcome to our wedding sign for the entrance. We had large white tasseled balloons dotted around. We had baskets of essentials like deodorant, hairspray, plasters, etc in the toilets. We put together little tissues, fan and confetti packs for the guests during the ceremony.

Sarah-Jane Ethan Photography was incredible. Not only are the photos beautiful, she was also a pleasure to have with us on our special day. She sent us a sneak peek while we were on honeymoon and then the full album arrived shortly after we arrived back. I would highly recommend for anyone that is having a relaxed boho style wedding to contact SJ – she really is amazing!

Again, Jon from Top Table Films was incredible. The video is amazing and he was great to have around on the day.

Kirsty from The Wilde made all of my bouquet dreams come true. I had seen an image of a bouquet that I loved and asked her to create something similar but to tie in some of the wild flowers from the walled garden at the venue. I could not have been happier with the outcome! She also created the bridesmaid bouquets and some flower crowns for the flower girls which looked amazing. And then she dressed the venue and created a beautiful arrangement at the front of the aisle.

My aunty made my cake and Kirsty dressed it with flowers. We wanted a dessert table rather than just a cake, so we ordered lots of different cakes and biscuits. Caroline from The Kitsch Hen created some ‘til death do us party’ biscuits and we made a Krispy Kreme donut wall.

We went for the DJ and Sax package from Club Class Entertainment. They were incredible! The dance floor was full all night. We also had a glitter bar and beer pong.

From one bride to another…
