Sammy & Isabel’s Mini London Wedding

Natural environments are of course absolutely beautiful, but getting married in the heart of an urban landscape has its own kind of appeal. Sammy & Isabel chose Islington Town Hall for their sophisticated, low-key wedding earlier this summer and what a day it was. They danced down the aisle, paused for confetti on the steps (of course!), and enjoyed an intimate modern European feast at a nearby restaurant.

Isabel + Sammy say…

As we were looking to have a mini London wedding the ideal choice was Islington Town Hall for an intimate ceremony, followed by nearby restaurant, Fig and Olive, for a celebratory feast! The vibe we were going for was chic city luxe, blending elegant modern style with the tradition of an iconic town hall wedding. We were keen to add personalised touches in too such as dancing back down the aisle to Applaudise by Iyanya after the ceremony. This was so much fun, created such joyous energy in the room and lifted spirits even higher!

My dress was an off the shoulder cream midi dress with a dramatic sculptural ruffle by Solace London. I wanted something contemporary and simple, but stylish and special – this one was perfect for our intimate, relaxed day. This was paired with ribbon-tied heels, a birdcage veil with pearl detail, and a classic all-white bouquet. The clean contemporary lines of the dress complemented the lines of city architecture, whereas the ruffle of the dress and the delicate ribbon of the shoes added a soft feminine touch.

Sammy’s inspiration came from well dressed men, who are iconic to him. Each person has a different way of wearing a suit, but commonly each person exudes ultimate confidence. That’s what he wanted for our wedding day. The colour he chose was clean, the accessories he chose were timeless and shoes he wore were stitched and handmade to perfection.

Creating a wedding look can be easy; just keep it simple, clean and classic and you can’t go wrong.

We chose Fig and Olive due to it being a cosy but airy space, perfect for intimate dinner parties. Plus it’s located right in the heart of Islington, just minutes and walking distance away from the Town Hall – the ideal venue for our mini wedding reception. The food was excellent – they specialise in modern European dishes with a Mediterranean influence. While their restaurant space is small, it’s elegant and sophisticated too. The glass roof and mirrored wall allowed a feeling of light and space inside our reception venue.

We chose Stephanie Green as our photographer as she loves to work with the lines of architecture and composes images that have the essence of film stills. We took the time to consider where we would like our couples portraits in and around Islington. As Stephanie is inspired by director Wes Anderson we knew there was always going to be some symmetry featured. We love that Stephanie’s cinematic theme is balanced with sentimental poses and the narrative of events that show the love between couples and their loved ones.

From one couple to another…

Less really is more. Keeping the wedding small and intimate meant that stress levels were kept low and having a mini wedding also means that you can spend quality time with your guests that you wouldn’t usually be able to do at a huge wedding.
