Romantic Elegance Amongst the Dreaming Spires

Written by Caitlin Hoare
Is there anything more romantic than golden dappled light dancing across an elegantly dressed tablescape?

A Bodleian Libraries wedding will forever be defined by historical, romantic elegance. The dramatic arched windows and magnificent stone carved ceiling in the distinguished Divinity School need little introduction and provide a truly spectacular and atmospheric backdrop to any ceremony or wedding reception. Simply add a stylish neutral palette, layers upon layers of texture and oodles of natural light for the dreamiest wedding setting. If you can also task Maria Madison Photography to capture it all for you, including THAT sunlight (it deserves a credit, come on!) then you really are onto a winner.

Bodleian Libraries is set in the heart of Oxford, amongst the backdrop of the ‘city of the dreaming spires’ and is said to be one of the oldest libraries in Europe. The library also offers magnificent ceremonial doors and the most intricate of details in the stone walls. Convocation House also provides an impressive ceremonial space with its fan-vaulted ceiling and gothic architecture.

The whole venue is steeped in romance and elegance and has three spectacular rooms which can be used for both larger and more intimate venues. The venue oozes grandeur and impressive elegance which was perfect for this luxury styled shoot.

The overall theme of the and style of the editorial was not only elegant and luxurious, but this was further elevated through the natural and textural details which were created by Belgray Weddings and Events. The overall effect therefore was not only modern but beautifully elegant too.

We chose the stunning ‘Penina’ Enzoani dress for its romantic, whimsical feel. With its boned corset style bodice and puff sleeves it brings a modern twist to the classic fairytale-like tulle ball gown.

For Mel’s hair I chose classic, timeless Hollywood waves, to match the elegance of the wedding dress. I love my DhD 26mm classic wand for this, Osis Flatliner spray and Redken liquid hairspray, which achieve this beautiful, silky smooth finish.

The theme of the shoot was timeless elegance. For the tablescape we wanted to create a romantic feel using different textures and fabrics. We kept the colour scheme neutral and earthy to complement the tones in the walls of the stunning Divinity School.

For the ceremony space we created a broken floral arch using all dried and preserved flowers to elevate the space and frame the couple without taking away from the intricate details of the building.
