Modern Monochrome Sailcloth

Written by Caitlin Hoare
Marquees, tents and tipis provide couples with a fantastic blank canvas from which to build their dream wedding. None more so than Sami Tipi’s Sailcloth Tent, which was the perfect backdrop to today’s modern monochrome inspiration at The Hideaway at Ticknall.

The crisp, clean canvas makes the contrasting black details POP while harmonising the gorgeous natural textures and statement contemporary fashion. This one’s for you if you love the idea of a relaxed outdoor celebration but don’t feel the rustic, boho vibe is quite right. It’s laid-back… but luxurious!

The Hideaway at Ticknall offers a secluded hideaway for an outdoor wedding. We wanted to contrast the rustic setting with a modern-styled Sailcloth shoot. The Sailcloth, with its elegant styling, popped perfectly on the site.

Cathy of Boelle Events and Hollie of Moss Floral Artistry worked alongside other amazing suppliers to create a modern monochrome look in our Two Pole Sailcloth Tent. The primary colour we used was simple, crisp white, with accents of black to create the modern monochromatic vibe, a complete WOW throughout.

You were first greeted into the Sailcloth tent by two gorgeous floral pillars Hollie had created with baby’s breath and white roses. They framed the entrance perfectly and made for the most fantastic photo spot. This kind of entrance to the Sailcloth gives guests a taste of what they are in for.

For the bridal look, Lisa of Mimi Toko selected two modern dresses offering a relaxed look and feel, perfectly complementing an outdoor sailcloth celebration. The short dress is Soliel by Eva Lendel. Soleil is an illustration of a modern fairytale bride. This gorgeous mini dress is made of 3D floral lace embellished with beads and sequins. This was a super contemporary dress for a cool bride!

The long dress is Deniss by Eva Lendel. Art Deco elegance inspires this sensational wedding gown crafted in soft satin. The plunge back and thigh-high split show just the right amount of skin, which fed into the modern feel of the shoot.

Hair and Makeup by Saskia created the bridal look, keeping the hair down with some loose waves, which suited the dresses and the whole vibe of the shoot. She wore nude tones on the eyes and dark lashes for the makeup, keeping it glowy!

The broken arch at the entrance to the Sailcloth was just the taster of what was inside. Making the most of the height of the two poles, Cathy used hanging wire softened with faux greenery to hang oversized black shades over the space. Being black, they stood out, and this was the first thing your eyes were drawn to when you walked in, and it was a real wow factor.

The cake was a whole station, complete with wave boards, petal chairs and massive pedestals for the three-tiered showpiece made by Cathlene’s Cakes. If you’re having a lavish cake, why not make it a show-stopping part of your decor?

The dining area featured long tables with floor-length white linen. Black crockery, including black charger plates, cutlery, and stationery, was added to make it pop. Holly from Moss Floral Artistry kept monochromatic without using foliage to compliment Cathy’s styling. All the arrangements were floral heavy, and ingredients were used en masse to create a modern and impactful look. Gypsophila was the main floral element, which is extremely popular with our modern couples.

We want couples to know that with an outdoor wedding, you can create a style that is right for you, especially working from a blank canvas. Just because you choose to have your day this way does not mean you have to go for a ‘rustic’ look if you do not wish to; it can be anything you want it to be.

We chose a unique colour scheme that we rarely see in our structures, which some may think will look dull. Our shoot has shown that a simple monochrome scheme can bring the Sailcloth to life and help make your wedding day unique.
