Mediterranean Sunsets in Devon

Written by Emma Hla
Immerse yourselves in the enchanting Devon countryside, where you will find Brickhouse Vineyard. This idyllic setting is home to the picturesque 18th-century Round House and a recently renovated Barn, seamlessly intertwining rustic charm with timeless elegance.

These captivating features form the heart of the vineyard, creating stunning backdrops for couples seeking the perfect blend of romance and relaxation on their wedding day. Nikki Sherriff, the creative force behind Knots & Kisses and the coordinator of this magical shoot, shares her inspiration.

Notes from the Stylist

Nikki says…

The journey began with the sheer beauty of the venue and its surrounding vineyard. Brickhouse Vineyard, with its inviting ambience and the friendliest staff, is the perfect location for couples looking for a celebration that effortlessly balances laid-back vibes with romantic elegance.

Picture your special day unfolding amidst a dreamy Italian-inspired atmosphere, where every moment resonates with love and sophistication. The aim of the shoot was to echo the vineyard setting and create a real Mediterranean feel. I wanted that beautiful, relaxed look without the obvious colour palette of greens, sea blues and lemons. We decided to go a different direction and took inspiration from a warm Mediterranean Sunset with beautiful green vines, hills, and a warm patio as a wonderful backdrop.

The theme and colour palette naturally led us to want to create a relaxed but elegant feel… echoing the laid-back looks of Italy in the 60s… with double-breasted suits, ponytails, bows and, of course, the Vespa as wedding transport!

We were aiming for a late summer feel to the shoot… the gorgeous warm colours of the Mediterranean late in the afternoon. So shades of lilac, mauve, apricot and terracotta were right.

We wanted to create a relaxed, classic feel of 1950s/60s Italy, so the groom wore a double-breasted cream suit with brogues and sunglasses. For the bride, we had some beautiful bespoke pieces from Dandelions & Pearls, accessorised with gold and pearl accessories from The Lucky Sixpence. We also felt that veils and bows were a must, and we borrowed pieces from Rebecca Anne Designs.

We let the beautiful brick Round House speak for itself for the ceremony with simple hanging and floral arrangements. Inside the barn dining area, a statement floral installation hung over the top table. Full linen tablecloths, beautiful table linens, and crockery were important for that classic look… but we added a modern twist using lilac and terracotta colours to make the look more dramatic. We also dressed the outside areas with beautiful, relaxed furniture and parasols, perfect for relaxing on the terrace after the ceremony with a glass of prosecco!

The florist was Alice at From The Wild, who took our styling palette and created a beautiful mix of fresh and dried flowers to suit the colour scheme with all the warm tones needed.
