Marielle & Gio’s Elegant Wedding at Pelham House

Written by Lottie Dainton
Elegance in East Sussex…

Pelham House is a luxurious country house in East Sussex, with envy-inducing interiors and elegant gardens that lend themselves to the most glorious photograph backdrops. It is all of these elements combined that encouraged Marielle and Gio to choose it as the setting for their wedding day. Expect bridesmaids in sage green (one of our favourite shades for ‘maids), Pinterest-worthy wedding tablescapes and the most incredible wedding cake (not to mention some rather incredible dance-moves…). Grab a cosy cup of coffee, get scrolling and soak up the inspiration…

Notes from the Bride

Marielle says…

It was truly a love at first sight! The first time we visited Pelham House we instantly fell in love and we knew that we want to have our wedding there. The venue is just simply beautiful, there was an option to have an outdoor wedding in their garden but the indoor hall was just pure stunning, the room felt very romantic, elegant and intimate and that’s what we were looking for. I loved that they have a spacious dressing room which was separated from the main building so I could make sure me and my husband didn’t see each other beforehand, it also had very nice furniture and great lighting for some photoshoot before the ceremony starts. They also have a lovely garden and terrace that all our guests got to enjoy whilst having their canapés and drinks after the ceremony.

Their dining hall was also one of our favourite rooms in the venue, it was very spacious but the details such as the contrast of the artistic lighting and wooden panels made it really special. It was a also great location and we loved that the venue provided accommodation to our guests which made it more special as we can spend more time with our family and friends the next morning. Lastly, the team in Pelham house were so helpful and friendly and they made everything seamless, they would really make you feel you can rely on them on the day. We’re just so happy and thankful we got to have our dream wedding there.

My wedding dress was designed by a Filipina designer and was made all the way from the Philippines and it was a truly a dream come true to wear her beautiful creation, I loved my gown so much that I didn’t feel the need to change into a different dress later that night as I wanted to wear it the whole time! My bridesmaids wore sage green dresses which was such a lovely tone and their gypsophila bouquets really matched it. For my hair and make up, I went for a very natural look. My husband wore a beautiful beige linen suit from Reiss which I feel we really complemented each other and our styles and his groomsmen wore black suits that really made him stand out. Both our parents were also in matching pink tone outfits and we absolutely loved that. We also asked our guests to wear complementary neutral colours so it would feel that everything came together and we really appreciated that extra effort they made.

We didn’t hire a stylist for the day because we really wanted to do everything with personal touch. A lot of our styling and decors were done ourselves including our signs, candles in vases and menu cards but we were lucky that the team from the venue and our suppliers helped a lot in putting it all together as how we instructed them to. In terms of inspirations for the theme and styling of the day, I wanted to incorporate clean and minimal colours such as white, greens and lots of neutrals and the mood to be romantic and elegant. Even before we found our wedding venue, I already knew that I want to be able to have a long table set up for our reception and I’m so glad we achieved that in the venue, we styled the long tables with tall flowers mixed with small one, menu cards, guests name cards and table numbers, and it was really nice that the chairs the venue provided suited the whole theme.

Our florist was Gobotanica and for flowers I wanted the main colours to be white and blush and no prominent foliage and we incorporated a lot of gypsopholia through out the styling of the venue including my bridesmaids bouquets and the dining table arrangements in big tall vases which we actually first used in the ceremony hall with our candles and made the room feel warm and elegant. Our dear friend made our wedding cake and it was the most beautiful and delicious cake ever! We wanted to have dried flowers incorporated in the styling and she did an absolute great job, it was too pretty to cut and eat! Our food was catered by Pelham House and it was outstanding. All our guests and including us really enjoyed everything they prepared and how the staff served them made the experience extra special. We had so many of our guests compliment the food after the wedding and that really made us so happy, it was an unforgettable meal for everyone.

Lucy Dracott Photography was truly a dream to have in our wedding day. It was one of the best and easiest decisions we ever made for our wedding! She is so amazing at what she does and she really delivered higher than our expectations. She captured our wedding in the most special and perfect ways and every single photo is just absolutely beautiful. She made us feel calm and stress free from the start with her lovely personality. She’s incredibly friendly, kind, thoughtful and patient and she was very open to listen to our ideas and requests. She helped us so much on the wedding day and we can’t thank her enough for that. It was honestly a pleasure having her as a photographer in our wedding and we are forever grateful for her wonderful work.

Best part of the day

Really hard to pick which part as everything from start of the day until the end was just perfect. But we would say our ceremony would be at the top. There was just so many special moments during that time, from the moment my parents handed me over to my husband, to saying our personal vows and seeing our guests be emotional with us, even the special moment my mom and sister performed a song and our family and friends taking part in our wedding traditions and of course the moment when we said our I do’s, and everything else in between, really too many to mention! The whole ceremony felt very genuine and intimate and this will be something we will always look back on.

From one couple to another…

To really live in the moment and enjoy every bit of the planning, it will all be worth it and will be the best day ever!
