Lucy & Seb’s Italian-inspired Summer Wedding at Firle Place

by Emma Hla
Images by Jessica Bevan Photography.
In the picturesque embrace of the Sussex countryside, newlyweds Lucy & Seb celebrated their love with friends and family at the enchanting Firle Place.

Planned by Bryony at Blue Door Weddings, their wedding was a delightful fusion of cultures, with an Italian-inspired theme paying homage to the groom’s heritage. The day was adorned with a vibrant tapestry of colourful flowers meticulously crafted by Fig & Flower, and guests graced the occasion in sophisticated black tie attire. It was a celebration that seamlessly blended the splendour of English charm with the warmth of Italian traditions, set amidst the stunning natural beauty of this country estate.

Notes from the Planner

Bryony says…

Lucy & Seb chose Firle Place because they were looking for a venue combining stately home grandeur with rural elegance and the flexibility to create a bespoke wedding day. They were smitten from the moment they came up the sweeping private drive through the estate to the beautiful house.

Lucy wore a stunning fitted dress by Martina Liana, which was both modern and timeless, featuring intricate hand-placed beadwork with lace. It fitted Lucy to perfection. Seb and the groomsmen wore black tie, with exquisite suits by the brilliant tailor Butch 1956. The fashion was Hollywood glamour through and through!

Lucy & Seb wanted to combine the groom’s Italian heritage with their shared elegant style but with a sense of real fun and adventure. The colour scheme was bright with accents of lemon and orange for a Sicilian twist but with plenty of textures. Velvet, rattan, coloured glassware, wood and wool all featured in their styling and soft furnishings, which sounds like an eclectic mix, but boy, it worked when blended. They also wanted to work with the elegant rusticity and rural location of the venue but never take away from the instant wow factor of the whole day.

We introduced Lucy & Seb to Zuzana from Fig & Flower, knowing she would be the perfect fit. Zuzana’s signature style matched the couples’ vision – abundant, romantic, nature-inspired with unforgettable floral designs.

The couple also chose to work with Food Glorious Food, an award-winning Sussex caterer and a firm favourite at Firle Place, as they deliver delicious, elegantly served food every time. The uber-talented Emily, Emily’s Mixing Bowl, made the cake and worked with the florist Zuzana to provide a perfect floral finish.

Best part of the day

From a planner’s perspective, I was just so happy to see the whole day unfold with all its different elements so perfectly from an aesthetic and coordination perspective. We didn’t miss a beat all day and felt it was executed perfectly but with SUCH a fun vibe. It helped that the weather played ball, and it was a sensational sunny day! Watching all 145 guests have the time of their lives was very rewarding and made me realise that all the hard work had paid off.

Words of advice

I like to build a real relationship with my couples so we feel very comfortable with each other by the day of their wedding, like good friends. Lucy and Seb trusted me to do my job once they briefed me and were quick to decide on my recommendations. Trust is the key element here. We also laughed a lot along the way, and this kind of authentic rapport is essential to a beautiful wedding day.
