Lauren & Danny’s Black Tie Wedding at Thicket Priory

Written by Emma Hla
Meet Lauren and Danny, who married amidst the scenic beauty of Thicket Priory in Yorkshire.

The couple infused a fun and stylish black-tie theme into their summer wedding day, adding a touch of Gatsby-esque glamour to create an atmosphere that was as timeless as it was contemporary.

Notes from the Couple

Lauren + Danny say…

As soon as we saw the building on our first visit, we knew this was a special place. Something so grand that was tucked away gave it mystique. The traditional decor mixed with modern elements was exactly what we were looking for in our wedding venue. The idyllic grounds also added to the charm of the venue. On our first visit, we noticed some wisteria growing on the side of the building, even though it wasn’t common that time of year. We thought this was approval from Dan’s Mum, who had recently passed, that this venue was perfect.

We can’t pick just one favourite part of Thicket. The grounds with the boathouse and bridges, the giant trees and swing, the many rooms in the house, each with its unique historical story, the secret bookcase door, fairy rooms, and so on. The Great Gatsby inspired our styling and some of the music choices. We had a lot of black, gold, and ivory, and we tried to keep things very 1920s by adding a lot of Art Deco elements, including my (Dan’s) late mother’s Art Deco perfume bottles on the top table and a dash of purple in places as this was her favourite colour. The purple flowers on the mantle during our ceremony were perfect.

Best part of the day

Being welcomed back into the room as Mr and Mrs by all our friends and family will always be a standout moment. Of course, the first look at my bride is something I’ll never forget. Thunder and lightning during our ceremony made things a bit different, too!

To future Thicket Priory couples

There isn’t a better venue with such a rich history while keeping up with modern times. The large amount of rooms for the guests is excellent. Unlike other venues that feel like hotels, it’s as if the venue becomes your home. The secrets and quirks throughout the building and grounds will keep you and your guests exploring. We’d recommend Thicket Priory; without a doubt, the perfect wedding venue.
