Kym & Rob’s Rustic Wedding at Lapstone Barn

Written by Emma Hla
Get ready to be transported to a magical wedding day that exudes simplicity, elegance and romance.

Originally planned in Italy with a ‘rustic-countryside’ feel, this couple’s plans were changed due to the pandemic. However, their new venue Lapstone Barn, with its exposed brick walls and candle-lit ceremony room, proved to be the perfect fit for their summer wedding. Kym’s classic and timeless dress, the neutral decor with white/green flowers and lots of candles, and the two-tier cake with delicate gold leafing, all combined to create a day that was simply stunning. Join us as we take a closer look at this beautiful wedding, which was expertly captured by photographer Richard Skins.

Notes from the Couple

Kym + Rob say…

Our wedding was originally being planned in Italy (pre-pandemic!). It was going to be outdoors with a ‘rustic-countryside’ feel, hosted in a fortress that had been renovated with exposed brick walls and beams. So, when we visited Lapstone Barn (even though it was snowing!), as soon as we walked into the ceremony room we got this magical feeling from it. It was set up beautifully and we loved the brick walls with all the candles which looked so romantic! We were looking to match our original Italian ‘rustic’ wedding and the barn was perfect for that.

We both wanted a classic and timeless style for the day. Guests were asked to dress in black tie formal but that went out of the window on the day as it was the hottest day of the year! My dress was simple and classic with a beautiful handmade veil and accessorised with pearl drop earrings. Rob wore a tuxedo, as did his groomsmen – in 38 degrees too!

We didn’t really have a theme but we wanted the décor to be quite simple and classic with neutral tones. We opted for white / green flowers, lots of candles in glass vases and beige loose linen on the tables.

For my bouquet I wanted green, white and pale pink flowers. I chose roses and eucalyptus but let the florist pick the rest! For the décor I wanted only white and green flowers, and I envisioned a large floral chandelier for the ceremony room.

The cake was made by Vanilla Pod Bakery and they were exceptional. The service from start to finish was amazing and I couldn’t recommend them enough. We wanted a white two tier cake with delicate gold leafing. We sent them photos of our vision and they delivered! We also tried all their flavours and we opted for almond and strawberry jam… The best in our opinion!

The catering was done in-house by Lapstone Barn. The food was absolutely delicious and was even better on the day compared to the tasting we had. There were so many options to choose from and they easily accommodated everyone’s dietary needs.

The photographer and videographer were our most important vendors and that meant they had to be perfect. I kid you not, we reviewed over 50 photographers before we decided that Richard Skins was the one. We knew immediately we wanted him to be our photographer after seeing his portfolio. We were looking for someone to capture the perfect candid moments, in a creative way. We fell in love with his style and the beautiful colours in his photos. On the day, Richard was brilliant. He made us laugh and feel very comfortable on camera which is something I was worried about before the big day. The photos are beautiful and we love them so much!

Best part of the day

Kym: There were a lot of special moments but my favourite part was the ceremony and saying our vows.

Rob: Seeing Kym coming down the aisle!

From one couple to another…

Someone said this to me before the wedding and I didn’t really get it until after we got married… The best advice is to just enjoy it. Try not to worry about whether everything will/is going to plan. The day will go so fast… Embrace it and enjoy it!
