John & Lindsay’s Texan-British Wedding in Devon

by Emma Hla

“Our Easter wedding weekend at Huntsham Court was incredible, from the Friday night party to the Sunday morning Easter egg hunt. The venue looked stunning in the spring sunshine and was decorated with the most beautiful flowers. The most delicious food, best suppliers, wonderful company and even a guest appearance from our horse, George, made it a weekend we will never forget…”

We’re kicking off today’s love story with a pretty lovely testimonial from Bride Lindsay, who married John, originally from Texas, in a quintessentially British wedding where all their friends and family could celebrate under one roof for the weekend.

Over to the venue for all the details…

Notes from the Venue

Jennifer says…

Huntsham Court was the perfect Country Estate venue to accommodate all 60 of Lindsay & John’s guests and immerse the Americans in a very British experience. Nestled in the Devonshire countryside, Huntsham Court welcomed their guests with open fireplaces, period features and eclectic styling throughout the Victorian Gothic Mansion.

The night before the wedding, the couple organised Margaritas, a Tex-Mex buffet and a Mariachi band to combine the two cultures. It was the perfect way to start the weekend wedding celebrations!

Although the wedding day was grounded in English tradition, John’s cowboy roots made a subtle appearance throughout, with the Groom’s cake designed by Mandy Howells and a very special visit from John’s trusted Friesian Horse ‘George’.

Their wedding planner, Laura from Kept Weddings, discussed what was most important to the couple so they could allocate their budget accordingly. Flowers, food and drink were definitely the focus for them, and they wanted to ensure these elements were at the forefront. Kit & Kee provided an outstanding three-course meal with charcuterie from their farm, slow-braised Devon beef and a blood orange tart. All were accompanied by carefully considered, fine wines from Majestic Wine Merchant to complement each dish. The couple also stocked the venue’s dry hire bar exceptionally well, with classic beers, pink champagne and even tastes of America for those hankering after a familiar and comforting Bourbon!

Booked over Easter Weekend, naturally, Spring was the focus of their style. Cornflower blue was the base colour for their stationery and bridesmaids’ dresses. The blue allowed the raspberry, apricot and purple hues from the gathered flowers to pop.

Lindsay looked elegant and timeless, wearing a beautiful Sassi Holford dress and Hermione Harbutt accessories, which worked perfectly together. John looked incredibly cool, calm and dapper in his dark navy suit with a cross-over pale grey waistcoat.

As massive fans of chocolate and cake, the Easter weekend couldn’t have been more fitting for the pair. Ahead of departure on Sunday, Lindsay and John organised an Easter Egg hunt for the children (and adults alike!) in the stunning Huntsham Court grounds. It finished a memorable weekend nicely, bringing everyone together one last time ahead of fond farewells.

Jules from Rockrose Photography is a firm favourite at Huntsham Court, as she has a gift for capturing the clients’ personalities and finding the perfect light in and around the venue. On this occasion, Jules was presented with a slightly different group photo regarding John’s beloved horse, George. Having kept George in stables near the venue, he was brought to the reception to be a part of the family photos. George didn’t miss the opportunity to shine; with his mane decorated with fresh flowers, which the florist provided, he posed effortlessly with the newlyweds in front of the venue.
