Jessica & Ben’s Pelham House Wedding

Written by Caitlin Hoare
Jessica and Ben chose Pelham House, a beautiful 16th-century exclusive venue in Lewes, East Sussex, as the backdrop to their beautiful late May wedding, and I don’t think they could have chosen better!

Pelham House hasn’t long had a mega gorgeous renovation, and Jessica and Ben managed to make use of each of the stunning venue spaces, from bridal prep in the Dressing Room to their ceremony in the exceptionally elegant Goring Room (the drapes, the windows…swoon!). They enjoyed drinks in the garden, with breathtaking views across the rolling countryside, before dining in The Blencowe Room (marble pillars, intricate original wood panelling, etc.!). Each area sounds like a dream. That’s because they are!

Notes from the Bride

Jessica says…

We fell in love with Pelham House as soon as we saw it. We’d visited other venues we liked and where we could picture a wedding, but when we walked around Pelham House, I imagined our wedding. With a May date, we loved the idea of using the gardens for our drinks reception and even having an outdoor ceremony. The ‘no fuss’ beauty of Pelham House was a perfect fit for our theme of minimalist elegance.

My dress was Adriana Alier‘s ‘Hollie’ in a baroque fabric. It was such a unique and elegant dress; the square neckline was a timeless feature that set it apart from other dresses I had tried.

Hair and makeup were the wonderful The Bridal Dream Team. Nadia and Gavin were an absolute dream to have around the morning of our wedding. Both were so relaxed and friendly; they put us all at ease, and we had such a fun time. Not to mention their flawless handiwork; my bridesmaids and I loved our looks and wished we had them on hand every day!

The groomsmen’s suits were hired from an independent, local, trusted Hove business. His years of expertise helped my husband and his friends look sharp all day, with hints and tips to stay in style. I wanted something chic and elegant for the bridesmaid dresses that the girls could wear to a black tie event or summer soiree. The dresses were from an online store but customised by my mum to give us the silhouette we were after.

We were looking for a clean, sharp, elegant image for our wedding day. White plinths made by my dad held a dramatic and modern trailing flower display in the ceremony room, whilst a mixture of high-rise and low-table floral displays decorated our dining room. We had a bespoke neon sign with our surname hanging from a homemade copper frame to give the otherwise classic ballroom a modern edge.

Our florist was the wonderful Florika, based in Hove, an outstanding and all-around wedding soundboard. Hannah captured our vision perfectly and used her extensive knowledge and creativity to suggest designs I had never considered. She created a mood board that she kept updated as our plans developed, and I felt in control during the process. Our flowers were the main decoration for the wedding, and Hannah was able to create beautiful, intricate displays whilst maintaining our theme of minimal, timeless elegance.

Our next-door neighbour and family friend created our delicious array of red velvet, lemon and chocolate cupcakes with a vanilla centrepiece. We kept the decoration simple with vanilla icing and displayed the cakes on clear acrylic stands to create minimal fuss and not distract from the beauty of the cakes.

Faye Wilde Photography was simply fantastic. When searching for a photographer, we wanted wedding photos that would be a work of art hanging on our wall. And that is exactly what we have got. She captured the day’s fun, laughter and emotion and featured our guests in our gallery. She directed the crowds quickly and with ease to ensure we got the group shots we’d asked for and achieved beautiful couple shots whilst not taking us away from our party for too long. She was a true professional, and her expertise and creativity did not go unnoticed by us and our guests. We absolutely love every one of our shots and are so grateful for all the time and effort she put into making our wedding photos so special.

Best part of the day

Apart from the whole day, I loved the morning getting ready. We were all so full of excitement and anticipation of what was to come. The planning was finally coming to life, and I was so excited for the rest of the day.

From one couple to another…

It is a cliché, but enjoy every minute and the occasion as much as possible. The day went so fast, but we could stay the night before, and the night of the wedding at Pelham House, so we squeezed out every last second of our celebrations.
