An Elegant, Autumn Wedding in The Cotswolds

Written by Caitlin Hoare
Lapstone Barn’s Cotswold stone barn never fails to deliver the wow-factor.

Hannah & Stewart’s autumnal barn wedding is rustic romantic perfection, documented beautifully by Captured by Katrina. Expect tones of sage green, elegant personalised details and foliage aplenty, all with a stylish, fine art finish. Pretty dreamy really!

Notes from the Bride

Hannah says…

We wanted a country styled wedding venue and have always loved the Cotswolds. As soon as we viewed Lapstone Barn we could picture our day there. We loved the Cotswold stone barn and the cosy, country feel/decor throughout. The venue is super light and airy which was also important to us as we were having an autumn wedding so didn’t want it to feel too dark if the weather wasn’t on our side. The Hayloft was the BEST bridal suite we saw, so spacious and calming, just what you need when you’re getting ready for your special day! The layout of the venue was also perfect for us as we wanted the evening to flow comfortably for guests from the dancefloor to the bar without it feeling too separate.

We wanted soft, elegant styling with a modern classic feel and lots of foliage/greenery. We chose white drapes in the barn to draw out the white flowers amongst all the greenery, and sage green table runners covered in foliage and a mix of candlesticks and tealights for a cosy and inviting feel. Each guest had a vellum menu at their table setting which contained their name and food choice. Lauradana from Wedding Creations executed it perfectly and brought all my visions (and more!) to life. Everything was styled perfectly and looked so beautiful.

We made sure we added as much personalisation as we could to really make the day our own. I purchased scented candles in our favourite scent and added our own wedding labels, bought a personalised guest book and had the date of our wedding engraved on the pen, had personalised straws for the drinks during the wedding reception and personalised confetti envelopes.

For the flowers we opted for lots of eucalyptus, greenery/foliage, with pops of white from hydrangeas and gypsophila. Bay Tree at Campden created a foliage hoop in the barn above the ceremony table (and dancefloor on the evening) which looked beautiful amongst the white drapes. On the ceremony table we requested plants rather than flowers, which were then moved onto the top table. The plants were a more sustainable option as we got to take them home, and are also a lovely keepsake of the day. Plus they really added more depth to the greenery and were an easy way to make a visual statement.

The bridal bouquet was a mixture of greenery and white flowers, with white hydrangeas being the star of the show! The groom’s buttonhole was the same theme. The bridesmaids had gypsophila and greenery bouquets and the groomsmen buttonholes matched too.

The Cotswold Cake Kitchen created a three-tier cake which was decorated with white buttercream, eucalyptus leaves and subtle gold flakes. We wanted the cake to be minimalist and classic looking, whilst also tying in with the theme. Each tier was a different flavour (chocolate & raspberry, lemon and carrot). We also supplied some paper cake bags to make it easier for guests to take a slice home with them, which went down a treat! Our cake topper was also gold and personalised to include a little nod to our furbaby (Dora) who unfortunately couldn’t be there on the day.

Our photographer was Captured by Katrina who was amazing from start to finish. She captured everything so effortlessly and blended in with the guests so well. We wanted natural photos that really reflected the feel of the day, rather than staged posing. Katrina was perfect for this and we were blown away when we received the photos. All the little details were captured and whenever we look at the photos we’re transported right back to how amazing the day was. We couldn’t recommend her enough!

Best part of the day

It’s hard to distinguish the best part of the day as it was all so amazing! But if I had to choose I would say the hour or so after you’ve said your vows and you get to mingle properly with your loved ones and really enjoy the fact all the planning has come to life. We absolutely loved seeing how Lauradana had styled the venue, it really was perfect and made us so happy.

From one couple to another…

Sweat the small stuff! I think the smaller details are what makes your day unique and are so important. If you can personalise your day in any way to reflect you both as a couple, then do it! (Etsy is perfect for any bits and bobs). Also, all the planning really is worth every second when your big day finally arrives.
