Eilidh & Craig’s Bachilton Barn Wedding

by Caitlin Hoare

It’s fair to say that being able to spend some of your wedding outside, on the last weekend of October, isn’t always a given, but E + C lucked out!

You would be forgiven for thinking their wedding took place on a beautiful summer day, but they tied the knot on 30th October, the most beautiful, sunny autumnal day. This is one gorgeous post-pandemic wedding, folks…keep scrolling for a delightfully modern venue, Bachilton Barn, bridesmaids in blue, and a magical sparkler photo opportunity when the sun goes down.

Notes from the Bride

Eilidh says…

We chose to have our wedding at Bachilton Barn as we were looking for a blank canvas rustic venue that allowed us to decorate to our taste. Our venue needed to be in a rural setting as we are lovers of a good view and knew we wanted our outdoor wedding photos to include this. When we visited Bachilton Barn, we immediately fell in love with the venue, and it ticked all our boxes. We particularly loved how flexible we could be with the decor, suppliers, and accommodation for us and our close family and friends on site.

My wedding dress was from the WED2B signature range in Glasgow. I chose a fitted dress with a lace overlay and beading detail. I loved my dress as it felt exquisite and not over the top, which was the vibe I was going for. My hair and makeup were done by Honey Love Makeup & Hair, and my pearl drop earrings were a gift from my bridesmaids and tied the whole look together.

My bridesmaids’ dresses were from ASOS, and I loved these details. I think it’s important to realise that you don’t need to spend a fortune on a dress for it to stand out! My bridesmaids loved the blue dresses and found them so floaty and easy to move around in, which was so important to me as I wanted them to feel relaxed.

The groom and groomsmen wore Arran Tweed kilts from MacGregor and MacDuff in Glasgow. The groom wore a different tie and sporran so he would stand out from the rest. They all looked bright on the day, and the colours aligned well with the bridesmaid dresses and the surroundings.

We originally had a spring wedding booked, so we had to rethink our theme when we changed our date to autumn. We had always loved the idea of an autumnal wedding so the date change worked in our favour! We decided to go for a modern rustic look with hints of autumnal colours, including orange and burgundy. We loved paying attention to detail and enjoyed making up bunches of dried flowers for the guest’s place cards, decorative hoops, and jars with candles and flowers dotted around the venue.

We found our florist, Something Special Florist, under a list of recommendations and loved their work and the fact they had already provided flowers for many weddings at Bachilton Barn. We went for a loose, relaxed look with a mixture of autumnal colours in the flowers and foliage. These bouquets complemented the wedding theme and colours well and looked terrific in the professional photos.

We chose Cake32 in Crieff to make our wedding cake after finding them on Instagram and loving their wedding cakes. We went for chocolate, caramel, white chocolate, and raspberry as our flavours, which were absolutely delicious! The stencil and gold fleck detailing on the cake were stunning and exceeded our expectations.

When choosing our caterer, it was essential for us to have the flexibility to adapt the menu to suit our guests and give them at least two options for each course. We had a tasting with Delicious Catering and were blown away by the food quality. The guests commented on how delicious the food was, along with the very generous portions!

Having looked through Karol Makula‘s portfolio, we knew he was the photographer for us, as his work is stunning! Karol captured our day perfectly and made us feel so at ease that we barely knew he was there. It was lovely to look through our photos, see parts of the day from different angles, and capture the happiness it brought us and all our guests.

After some initial debating, we are so glad we chose to have a videographer at our wedding. Watching our day unfold and capturing everything from getting ready to speeches and dancing has been so unique to look back on. KLS Media Scotland provides drone footage, which we are happy we chose as it captures the stunning setting at Bachilton. They also had great banter and cool ideas for shots, which made the whole experience so fun!

Best part of the day

The best part of the day was sharing it with our loved ones. We had our legal wedding ceremony in the garden on our original date with only witnesses present. To be able to do the whole day again with our family and friends at this stunning venue meant the world to us. Being our second “wedding”, we were much more relaxed and enjoyed every bit of the day. If we had to choose one extra special moment in the day, we would have to say in the evening when all the guests went outside and lit sparklers for us to walk through. It was so magical and an experience we will never forget.

From one couple to another…

Having had two weddings in the same year due to the pandemic, one being an intimate garden wedding with our loved ones absent and the other our planned venue wedding with our family and friends, we have a few words of wisdom!

It is important to remind yourself why you are getting married and what is essential. Don’t stress about the small things because they will all come together. The most important thing is having your loved ones together to celebrate your marriage. It can be easy to get carried away with all the planning and stresses of a wedding, but it’s essential to relax and enjoy the day as it is over so quickly!
