Colourful, Rustic Wedding Inspiration at The Haybarn

‘Have your wedding day your way, and don’t be afraid to bring some colour in…’

Even if we were in the depths of winter (which sometimes can feel like it during a British summer, let’s be honest…), this styled shoot at The Haybarn has the effortless ability to brighten up a day. With a focus on the fun, retro and funky with a nod to the glorious 60s, a fabulous team of wedding suppliers worked together to whip up an editorial that exudes joy. Expect big, bold blooms that are impossible to ignore, a vintage wedding car and unbeatable ‘Just Married’ snaps (you have permission to swoon).

It’s peace. It’s love. It’s harmony. And it’s all taking place at The Haybarn in Herefordshire…

The Haybarn is set in a beautiful location in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside. Featuring rolling hills, sheep and even donkeys, this working farm wedding venue has endless character and beautiful scenery. You’ll find a unique Cart Shed used for ceremonies and the Main Barn for the reception before guests can relax and unwind in the onsite accommodation in the form of some rather cool shepherd’s huts.

With a wonderfully talented team at the helm, the red brick and corrugated tin provided the most fabulous backdrop for our recent styled shoot – inspired by fun, bright, retro, funky vibes. We wanted to include colour and vibrancy in this shoot with plenty of 60s inspiration, drawing ideas from flower power, geometric shapes, and bold colours. Bright oranges, hot pinks with pops of yellow, and paler tones of pink, lilac, and peach worked hand in hand to tie everything together.

Showcasing two Instagram-worthy wedding dresses, the first gown was a bohemian-esque lace gown with stunning winged sleeves, which we completed with delicate flower power shoes and ribbon tied. The second was an elegant fitted design with a gorgeous scoop neck, a polka dot veil and a matching bow for the hair, finished with the most beautiful pearly mules. The model was vamped up with luscious lashes and wings with hot pink and pearl additions to the eyelids. For the hair, we incorporated a mini bouffant into this short cut for volume. Her aisle style was perfectly finished with gorgeous touches of handmade jewellery by Elizabeth Terzza.

We wanted to incorporate a 60’s feel into this retro shoot, seen within the decor and colourway, flower power, geometric shapes, and bold colours. We used bright, bold colours with the flowers and included reviving vintage flower varieties. The awesome stationery and signage, using a stand-out print and vibrant colours, were perfect for this shoot. The cake by Secret Cinderella Cakes incorporated a floral and geometric theme to tie everything together. The tablescape picked up on all the varying tones, with attention to detail on napkins and candles. The festoon lighting by Little Lighting Company in the ceremony space gave a great ambience. We also had the coolest vintage car!

May Rose Floral Design created beautiful floral designs that complemented the colourway and incorporated more traditional varieties to keep with the retro vibe with Carnations, Daisies, Chrysanthemums, and Gerberas included in the mix alongside softer romantic flowers like ranunculus, spray roses, stocks and clematis.

Anything goes, have your wedding day your way and don’t be afraid to bring some colour to the proceedings. This gorgeous venue is a great backdrop, and the wood, red brick and tin, stunning setting, and relaxed atmosphere are perfect for any wedding style.
