Classic Marquee Wedding Inspiration at Fillongley Hall

Written by Emma Hla
Fillongley Hall is a Grade II listed country house set in over 85 acres of Warwickshire countryside.

From the moment you enter the gates and head down the sweeping driveway, it’s hard not to be impressed by the frontage of the Hall and the grandeur of its surroundings. The neo classical Entrance Hall provides a majestic backdrop for intimate wedding ceremonies, and the grounds have stunning views which are perfect for outdoor wedding ceremonies and marquee weddings.

This editorial shows just how gorgeous outdoor weddings can be, especially when they are paired alongside a country house… bring on Summer!

Notes from the Venue

Linzi says…

Outdoor weddings are still popular with couples, especially with the recent law change allowing civil weddings and partnerships to continue outdoors.

This editorial was inspired by the grounds of the Hall in the Summer and consists of two themes. The first features a classic neutral colour palette of greens and whites which sit perfectly against the bold Neo-Classical backdrop of the Entrance Hall. We picked out elements of an English Country Garden throughout to enhance the natural beauty of the early summer grounds at the Hall. The second in the marquee features calm neutral, warming tones and vintage props. The classic and modern Sailcloth tent by Sami Tipi sat perfectly in the grounds with its swaying trees and stunning views.

The dresses included a detailed lace bodice and sleeves, reflecting the foliage in the oversized wedding bouquet. We also included a stunning taffeta ball gown featuring a deep plunging ‘V’ neckline, with diamante encrusted straps and waistband. The lightweight taffeta was perfect for an outdoor wedding and catches the light beautifully in the couple shots throughout the grounds. We accessorised with a range of jewellery including a golf leaf and jewelled headband, as well as, delicate leaf themed jewellery.

In such a grand entrance Hall we knew we needed a centre piece to match so we created a large fireplace floral arrangement which became the backdrop for our intimate wedding ceremony. The aisle was lined with a meadow arrangement which really brought the English countryside into the venue. Cream chiffon chair weaves matched the look perfectly. For the outdoor ceremony we created a large circular backdrop to sit alongside the amazing views! The large urn flower arrangements lined the entrance to the aisle and really added the wow factor.

In the marquee we added a touch of luxury and warmth with coloured glassware, handwritten table plan, gold chargers and black plates. The burnt orange velvet sofa was draped with a luxurious sheepskin. The scented flowers included deeper accents to make the colours pop and we added a central flower cloud as a key focal point.

Our first florist was Fran from Limewood Flowers. Fran is an eco-florist who sources seasonal British flowers which smell and look amazing. Over 90% of the flowers and foliage used were British grown and the 10% imported flowers were sourced from a specialist Fairtrade grower. She opted for a romantic and elegant look with a paired back, colour palette. The shoot coincided with Peony season, and nothing screams romance more than a full peony. These were matched with sweet peas, scented roses, and long jasmine trails.

Foxgloves, ferns, poppies, and the most incredible philadelphus taken from the estate added a countryside dimension. It really felt like an English summer garden gradually coming into flower! The large arrangements for the outdoor ceremony area matched the grandeur of the Hall. For that extra special touch, Fran added a little apple mint foliage to create a unique wedding perfume. This is such an important part of the wedding flowers that doesn’t come across in an image and allows precious memories to be captured forever.

Our second florist was Jess from J Austin Designs. Jess also included scented flowers to encapsulate the outdoors and reflect the setting. The inspiration involved gorgeous textures, rich colours and a natural flow of movement throughout. The colour palette was a summery mix of rich colours alongside some deeper accents to make the colour pop against the more muted hues.
