Char & Ben’s Wedding at The Pear Tree

by Emma Hla
Images + Film by The Smiths & Co.
In August of 2022, love and laughter echoed through the idyllic gardens of The Pear Tree in Wiltshire as Char and Ben exchanged vows in a beautiful outdoor ceremony.

The groom was dapper in black-tie and a luxurious velvet jacket, a perfect complement to the bride’s understated and elegant dress crafted by Made with Love. Their choice of embracing seasonal, lively colours was reflected in the vibrant florals by Isabloom Floral Design. The atmosphere was fun and authentic, mirroring the couple’s genuine joy and love for one another, creating a unique and personal day.

Notes from the Bride

Char says…

We chose The Pear Tree as the backdrop for our wedding as we wanted a beautiful blank canvas. Their recent renovations breathed life into the space, and the venue felt light-filled and modern. Our desire to marry outdoors was granted by favourable weather!

A glimpse at the sample menu sealed the deal regarding the culinary offerings. As avid food enthusiasts, we knew it had to be exceptional. Interestingly, we booked the venue during lockdown without even visiting it; having been a wedding planner for years, I had insights into what venues would or wouldn’t work for us.

For my bridal look, I was torn between two styles: either the dazzling Made With Love’s ‘Lola’ or the understated elegance of ‘Archie.’ After visiting boutiques in London and a curveball visit to Bristol, I found my dream dress at The White Collection in Portishead. I paired the ‘Archie’ with a pearl veil, Loeffler Randall gold pleated bow heels, Amme London hoops with pearl drops and a Lily & Roo pearl drop necklace.

Ben knew he wanted a classic look with a twist. He opted for a velvet suit jacket in a deep, enchanting blue, adding texture to his tuxedo. Paired with his late Grandpa’s cufflinks, it exuded a timeless charm.

For the bridesmaids, we embraced individuality with three distinct dresses that all nodded to the deep blue shade, complementing the groom’s attire. The groomsmen donned sleek black tuxedos, while the flower girls looked adorable in perfect little dresses from Next. The page boys were equally charming in fabulous shorts, shirts, braces, and bow ties from an Etsy Kidswear specialist.

Our aim for the day was to infuse it with fun without going overboard. We envisioned being in a space surrounded by our dearest ones, immersed in love, laughter, and a touch of sparkle. It was a colourful, vibrant celebration sprinkled with a few cocktails.

I have a soft spot for glitter, and disco balls were a must-have. Texture played a crucial role in our design, with abundant, lush blooms offering a delightful contrast to the sharp suits and the simplicity of my bridal gown. We embraced seasonal, lively colours, steering clear of the ‘neutral wedding’ trend. Pink and orange were our choices.

In terms of execution, we sought a balance between perfection and authenticity, pulling everything together in a carefully considered yet relaxed manner. Isabloom’s work captivated us, striking the perfect chord between polished and natural without veering into excess. We were inspired by Australian weddings, incorporating elements like flipped roses, textures, and the iconic ‘cloud’ that graced the skylight, brilliantly brought to life by Isabelle and her team.

Each bridesmaid had a unique bouquet focused on a specific flower, echoing through the decor and the bridal bouquet. The buttonholes incorporated flowers from the bridal bouquet, tailored for the groom and the party.

Our cake was a zesty lemon and a luscious chocolate orange creation with two deep tiers, each adorned with gold leaf and fresh flowers. We froze the cake after the wedding to savour it for months, cherishing the memories and relishing it with a brew occasionally!

We ensured the culinary experience was exceptional, with an oyster bar, delightful Chapel Down bubbles, and an array of canapés. The custom menu we crafted with the chef featured a beautiful fish dish to start, a beef main, and a trio of our favourite desserts. The wine selection received rave reviews, with a fresh Marlborough wine, a full-bodied Valpolicella, a blushing rose, and Taittinger for toasting.

They turned cocktail hour into a delightful extravaganza featuring fruity pornstars and espresso martinis to kick off the festivities. In the evening, wood-fired pizzas from the outdoor kitchen were a carb-filled delight, accompanied by macarons (my favourite) and, of course, more cake!

Best part of the day

One of the best parts of the day was the multitude of memorable moments, from the anticipation while walking down the aisle to the joyful confetti storm. We revelled in unique touches like being announced into the wedding breakfast with Craig David lyrics, the lively speeches, and the delightful tears and laughter shared while exchanging stories. Champagne spraying, aeroplane competitions, and a playful photoshoot in the grass added to the joy. The day was a true celebration of love and fun, featuring colourful guest outfits and a resounding outpouring of love.

From one couple to another…

Be genuine and let go of the pressure of perfection. Tune out the noise of social media and prioritise what truly matters to you. Surround yourselves with understanding suppliers who resonate with your vision, making the journey enjoyable and effortless. Allocate extra time for unexpected tasks, like the intricacies of a table plan. Delegate responsibilities on the day, granting yourselves the freedom to absorb and relish every moment. Remember, even if things don’t go precisely as planned, what truly counts is the love and celebration that defines your day.
