Art Deco Vintage Glamour for a Tipi Wedding

Written by Caitlin Hoare
Combining past and present we love this modern twist on a glamorous classic.

A beautifully beaded wedding gown, Gatsby-inspired stationery, and a dark and decadent colour palette… today’s Art Deco wedding inspiration set within one of Tipi Spaces’ unique white tipis just proves that the classics are classics for a reason; they never go out of fashion.

So, let’s head back to the prohibition with Marcel waves, cocktails galore and a show-stopping chandelier.

Notes from the Venue

Charlotte says…

Tipi Spaces are the first Nordic tipi hire company in the South-West to supply ivory-white tipis. Standing at a height of 7.5m they are hard to miss and the unique ivory-white canvas make them even more attention grabbing. They create a striking silhouette on the outside and are deceptively large on the inside. The conical design encircles you creating feelings of security and comfort.

The white tipis offer a literal blank canvas to allow you complete freedom to be as bold and as daring as your like with your wedding styling. The lighter coloured canvas also allows more natural daylight into the tipis and after-dark reflects the candlelight, fairy lights and festoon lights, illuminating the tipis inside and out.

The tipis have a strong, geometric shape which is synonymous with the Art Deco period. The ivory-white canvas also gave us the liberty to explore a more luxurious style of outdoor tipi wedding.

Art Deco glamour and geometry featured throughout this shoot. Brompton Buds created an inverse pyramid sculpture of feathery ferns and palm leaves above the dancefloor. The Fizzy Pheasant  mixed vibrant coloured cocktails served in cut-glassware. Letterpress stationery, designed and printed by The Dairy Studio, featured distinctive linear gold shapes and Sweet Satisfaction created a tiered wedding cake with geometric gold flourishes.

Sumptuous shades of deep navy, petrol blue and teal were prominent throughout the stationery, cake, tableware and furnishings. Metallic accents of black, bronze, gold, silver and copper gave an added luxurious contrast to the scheme.

Bride Ellie wore Sottero and Midgley, a dress chosen to create a sleek silhouette reminiscent of Art Deco fashion with intricate beading for a sophisticated sparkle. Mark, the groom, was an elegant dandy in a traditional morning suit, tailored by Sharif Tailoring.

The bride’s hair was styled in a Marcel wave typical of the period and then tied back in an elegant 1920s chignon by April Natalie Hair whilst Laura Le Page Bridal Makeup created smokey brown eyes and dark red lips in a bold contrast with the bride’s fair skin.

Hyland Weddings & Events helped bring all the decor and styling elements together. The dark wood bars from The Prop Factory and South West Event Hire, oxblood red leather Chesterfield sofa from Coutts Event Hire and silk throws, velvet table runner, linen napkins and fur rugs from C Fleur, The Knotted Napkin Co.Lace & Favour all worked together to create a rich depth and blend of luxurious textiles. Gold cutlery, metallic candelabra and copper charger plates from Glas Events gave extra accents of modern luxury. The pièce de résistance was the glorious glass Empire chandelier from Crescent Moon suspended opulently above the dining table.

Renowned for her sculptural floral installations, Emma from Brompton Buds used palm leaves to create the distinctive Art Deco fan-shapes and an inverse pyramid over the dancefloor, mirroring the geometric shape of the tipi. Ferns and willow created feathery textures and delicate white Phalaenopsis Orchids added an exotic elegance and colour contrast to the deep greens. Potted palm trees from Fuss Pots helped to define the entrance, dance floor and lounge bar with their fabulous sculptural plumes.

Outdoor weddings have become ubiquitous for laid back, rustic simplicity. The idea behind this shoot was to show couples that they shouldn’t be afraid to inject a bit of luxurious comfort and glamour to their outdoor wedding. Outdoor weddings offer couples the freedom for boundless fun without compromising on luxury. Outdoors doesn’t need to mean mud and welly boots!
