This unique, family-owned wedding venue lies in the heart of the Somerset countryside. A romantic Elizabethan Manor House surrounded by beautiful gardens, weathered stone walls and charming features, it has been in the same family for over 500 years.
They will work with you on every aspect to help you create your dream wedding in this special setting. Their flexible and friendly approach means your day will be exactly as you wish.
Located only an hour south of Bristol and two hours from London, Midelney Manor sits between Taunton and Yeovil in the ancient landscape of the Somerset Levels.
This bespoke venue only offers ten weddings per summer season, so each wedding is very personal to each couple.
Choose from the beautiful spaces to make your day uniquely yours, from champagne among the roses in the Walled Garden, an intimate lunch in The Potting Shed or a grand marquee or tipi in the Round Garden.
The ancient Walled Gardens and the backdrop of the house lend themselves to a traditional English country wedding, whereas The Potting Shed can create a more rustic and bohemian feel.
The Potting Shed lies in the centre of the gardens. It can be used for larger ceremonies or as a bar lounge, and it is a really versatile and quirky space.
Small ceremonies can take place within the main house or, if you prefer, an outdoor blessing in Washams Wood, found at the end of the garden!
Such an incredible venue with beautiful walled gardens. We had so many compliments about the venue! Alice was so helpful with any request we had and was very flexible when we unfortunately had to postpone the wedding due to the pandemic. Alice helped us find great suppliers and made sure everything went smoothly on the day. Would highly recommend!
We don’t even know where to begin! We had our wedding in July 2022 and it was just perfect. From the moment we viewed Midelney Manor we were bowled over. Alice was super attentive, knowledgeable and experienced with weddings. She was always there at the end of the phone during the planning process and allowed us to come and visit multiple times, with each time so welcoming and never rushing us out the door. The venue is absolutely incredible, you will not find a more beautiful setting.
The accommodation is beautiful and perfect for the two night stay with everything you need. There’s enough room for others to stay and more than enough room for both wedding parties to get ready, and it’s own entrance into the wedding made it feel magical.
Our wedding day went without a hitch and I am so sure it’s because of Alice in the background! She welcomed everyone and made sure everyone was in the right place, and worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We had the ceremony in the potting shed and it looked absolutely stunning.
I don’t think there is anything we would have changed with our wedding (aside from my nerves!) and we would 100000% recommend Midelney Manor. We loved it and so did our guests who were raving all night long about the venue (and have ever since!).
Midelney Manor is a bit of a secret, and we are so glad we found it after looking at 7 other Country House style venues in the Somerset, Dorset area. It enabled us to have either the beautifully old Potting Shed option should rain stop play, or the Marquee on lawns style… or indeed both, which we did. This took away the worry of inclement weather.
Alice provided great guidance and advice as to what works well (and not so well) as she has a wealth of experience and contacts for everything you will need to think of with so many different format ceremonies over the years. Her style is unobtrusive but present for when needed!
The Walled gardens are superbly well kept with rambling roses, over old stone and brickwork walls style. Plus there is the Woodland walk, for strolls in the evening to chill and relax looking at the gorgeous countryside. There’s plenty of parking and local places for guests to stay and make a great weekend of it. The Wing for Groom and Groomsmen or guests to stay in is full of character and extremely comfortable. Highly recommend this Venue.
My now husband contacted Alice before he’d even popped the question about availability of the venue. From the initial email Alice has been so helpful and responsive to our emails and questions. The day before the wedding Alice helped us to settle in and I could leave a whole separate review for our stay at Midelney West which was included as part of the venue hire (just amazing).
Then we come to the wedding day – Alice’s attentiveness was incredible. She was there from start to finish – helping guests, moving furniture and decorations to keep the space looking beautiful. One of my favourite touches was the lanterns providing candlelight down the garden path and around the guests when it got dark – all of the guests were amazed at how beautiful and private the venue was.
This is now a very long review all to say Alice is amazing and Midelney Manor is truly the most perfect wedding venue. Thank you for everything!
Midelney Manor is enchanting. The beautiful house with really lovely grounds made for a truly wonderful wedding amid the tranquillity of the Somerset Levels. Six months on we are still getting comments from friends and family on how it was the most perfect setting for a wedding. Alice could not have been kinder, more thoughtful or more helpful and her recommended caterers were genuinely brilliant. She made the whole process entirely stress free for us. We had the best day and would recommend it to anyone.
Our Midelney wedding was entirely faultless.
Midelney as a venue speaks for itself, as soon as we’d stepped foot into the immaculate walled gardens and quirky potting shed we knew it was the perfect place for us to say I do.
There are of course, many different elements to a wedding day. Picking a venue that allows you to have so much choice (choosing a florist, caterer, entertainment, etc can be daunting). Alice however was a godsend throughout the whole process, on hand at the end of the phone/ email for any question big or small whether it was 18 months before the wedding or the day before. She took pressure off in the final weeks by liaising with suppliers and sorted all the logistics.
She ensured our day was exactly how we imagined and that it ran perfectly with such a calming, can-do attitude.
Thank you Alice, Midelney is an absolute Gem and you make it shine that much brighter!
WOW, I am not even sure where to start with our review of Midelney Manor, absolutely everything was incredible. From the first time we set eye on the venue we felt so welcomed and once we saw the beautiful walled gardens and potting shed, we knew it would be the perfect setting for our wedding day.
Alice was exceptional. From our first email she was professional, helpful, passionate and approachable. From day one it felt like she wanted us to have a wonderful wedding, listening to our brief and helping in delivering everything we wished for. Alice was always clear in her communication, helpful in our decision making and compassionate when we faced some hurdles along the way.
Every guest has mentioned how beautiful the venue was and we can only agree with them. Midelney Manor is the perfect setting for your wedding and Alice is the perfect host. We cannot recommend this venue highly enough.
You can come and set up between 9 am and 5 pm on the Friday before your wedding, which will be on Saturday! Being able to set up the day before gives you plenty of time to get The Potting Shed and Marquee looking lovely-we will even provide you with tea and coffee throughout the day!
Yes, you can in the Walled Garden as you step out of the house. The decision to have an outdoor ceremony needs to be confirmed the day before the wedding.
We have two fantastic local wine merchants, and if you purchase your wine and fizz through them, there is no corkage charge. They are experts and will help you select your wine and also give you a tasting if you wish! If you would like to bring your own wine, there is a flat corkage fee of £300.
We have a good selection of hand-selected caterers, so hopefully, there is something for everyone. If you would like a specific caterer, you can bring them in for a flat fee of £300.
